Job summary

IPG Photonics is seeking an Assembly Technician to assemble, align, commission, and test precision laser system components. You will read blueprints, use micrometers and gauges, solder and wire components, and calibrate assemblies to meet tolerances.

You will participate in continuous improvement, maintain documentation, and ensure production goals and safety standards are met in a hands-on manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• Technical school graduate or equivalent experience.
• Competent in optical measurement tools, gauges and meters.
• Craftsman skill level with assembly hand tools and light power tools.
• Neat, accurate, and consistent work.
• Works well independently and assumes responsibility for own work.
• Attention to detail and ability to retain communicated information.
• Appropriate communication skills to convey information to other associates and supervisors.
• Understands when to request guidance from superiors and proper chain of command.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, align, commission, configure, debug, align, test, components into custom designed Laser Systems using hand tools, power tools, fixtures, and templates.
• Verify dimensions and clearances using micrometers, calipers, and height gauges.
• Solder and wire electrical and electronic components in specified location on assembly.
• Repair, rework, and calibrate assemblies to meet tolerances.
• Fabricate parts using shop equipment as required.
• Produce/assemble Systems that meet established quality goals.
• Windows computer setup and configuration.
• Commission, debug, system and confirm functionality and testing of machines.
• Test functional performance of completed electromechanical assemblies with test equipment.
• Create, maintain and improve documents and procedures that test electromechanical and measurement systems.
• Perform Checkout and Quality checks of systems.
• Plan assembly sequences to meet production and project goals; develop corrective action plans when needed.
• Support a safe and clean work environment by adhering to ILT safety programs, policies, and regulations.
• Attend staff meetings.
• Advise Purchasing on required materials and assist in corrective actions when required.
• Perform continuous improvement activities for safety, efficiency, quality and cost.
• Develop and maintain positive employee relations within policy guidelines.
• Suggest process changes to implement company strategies.
