Job summary

Klaasmeyer Construction Company, Inc. is seeking an HDD Locator to join the Field Operations team. The role tracks the drill head in real time, guiding depth and path, and keeps the bore clear of buried gas, water, and power lines along the bore corridor.

You will operate electronic bore tracking systems, review bore plans, confirm depths at utility crossings, and communicate clearly under field conditions. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of verifiable HDD locating experience in a production field environment.
• Hands-on experience with electronic bore tracking systems — walkover and/or wireline.
• Ability to read bore plans, utility locate sheets, and depth/pitch data in real time.
• Strong communicator — clear under field pressure.
• OSHA 10 preferred; OSHA 30 a plus.
• Traffic Control / Flagger certification required or obtained within 30 days.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL a plus.
• Willing to travel for projects; overnight stays as needed.

Responsibilities

• Operating electronic bore tracking systems — walkover and wireline — to monitor drill head position, depth, pitch, and roll.
• Walking the bore path above ground during active drilling and feeding real-time guidance to the HDD Operator.
• Confirming depth and clearance at every utility crossing before the drill advances through it.
• Reviewing bore plans and utility locate sheets before each bore.
• Directing steering corrections to keep the bore on path and within depth tolerance.
• Calling it when something doesn't look right underground — and backing that call up.
• Logging bore data, depth readings, and utility crossings accurately on every job.
