ANDRITZ in Torrington, CT, seeks an experienced grinder operator to run a 30” wheel grinder and meet precise specifications. This is a union, hourly position with responsibilities including wheel changes, measuring rolls, and maintaining equipment records.

The role requires 3–5 years of manual machining, ability to read blueprints and use precision measuring tools, and the physical capacity to lift 50–60 lbs and work up to a 12-hour shift.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of manual machining experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read tape measures, calipers and micrometers.
  • Familiarity with run out, taper, surface finish, tolerance and blueprint reading.
  • Must be able to lift 50-60 lbs. and work up to 12 hour shift.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a grinder with a 30” wheel.
  • Select grinding wheels according to knowledge of metal properties and abrasives.
  • Grind roll up to 2,000mm dia., 14,000mm length.
  • Read work orders and production schedules to determine specifications.
  • Perform wheel changes and mount wheels to hub.
  • Make roll measurements and roll track measurements.
  • Use and maintain precision measuring equipment.
  • Make hardness and smoothness checks.
  • Select drivers and shoes for job.
  • Perform daily machine/equipment maintenance including oil/filter changes and greasing.
  • Complete daily paperwork and keep area clean and organized.
