Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of manual machining experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and use tape measures, calipers and micrometers.
  • Familiarity with run out, taper, surface finish, tolerance and blueprint reading.
  • Must be able to lift 50–60 lbs. and work a 12 hour shift on concrete floor.
  • Hydraulics knowledge is helpful.
  • Experience with lift trucks and overhead cranes is desired.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and use of powered hand tools.

Responsibilities

  • Operate grinding machine (30" wheel) and select grinding wheels accordingly.
  • Grind rolls up to 2,000 mm dia., 14,000 mm length.
  • Read work orders and production schedules to determine specifications.
  • Perform wheel changes and mount wheels to hub.
  • Make roll measurements and roll track measurements.
  • Maintain close tolerances (microns) and check diameters.
  • Make hardness and smoothness checks and inspect with precision tools.
  • Perform daily machine maintenance and complete paperwork.
  • Follow housekeeping rules and keep area clean and organized.
