Job summary

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) seeks a skilled fabrication technician for the second shift (2:30pm–12am) in Poway, CA.

The role involves designing and building production tooling for fabricated parts, and performing prototype fabrication from sketches and descriptions. You will read blueprints and engineering drawings, set up and operate mills, lathes, and drill presses, and weld to tight tolerances on aircraft components.

Qualifications

• Associate degree, technical/trade school training, or equivalent with 3+ years fabrication experience.
• Ability to read blueprints, engineering drawings, and sketches to meet specs.
• Welding to close tolerances; work with AN/MS fasteners and aircraft tools.
• Independently solve fabrication issues and work with teams on complex tasks.
• Willingness to work extended hours when required.

Responsibilities

• Designs and builds production tooling for fabricated parts.
• Performs prototype fabrication from descriptions or sketches.
• Forms sheet metal parts with machinist tools and measuring instruments.
• Runs mills, lathes, drill presses and grinding equipment to produce parts.
• Sets up engine lathes for quantity production machining to close tolerances.
• Performs plumbing with AN fittings on hard and flexible lines.
• Grinds tools, drills, and bits; welds and fits to spec.
• Designs jigs, fixtures, and press tooling for weldments and sheet metal work.
• Reads blueprints and specs to determine operations and sequences.
