Job summary

Great Plains Manufacturing, Inc. in Salina, KS, is seeking a 2nd Shift Fab Operator to set up and operate fabrication machines, including cutoff saws, lasers, and presses, to cut, shape, and finish metal parts.

You will read job specs, adjust machines, verify dimensions with precision tools, perform basic maintenance, and support teammates in a fast-paced environment. Typical schedule is Monday-Thursday 4:30 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. with overtime on Fridays; prior fabrication experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and understand engineering prints.
• Working familiarity with precision measuring tools.
• Strong math skills including fractions and decimals.

Responsibilities

• Set up, tend and operate fabrication machines (cutoff saws, shears, rollers, brakes, presses, forming, spinning, punching, laser cutting, CNC plasma).
• Read job specs to determine adjustments and material needs.
• Set stops or guides to specified lengths from scales or templates.
• Position work piece against stops and align marks with dies or blades.
• Operate controls to start machines and monitor for defects.
• Measure pieces to ensure accuracy of operation.
• Remove burrs and clean parts; perform light maintenance.
• Assist others with setup and handling of finished pieces.
• Suggest quality improvements to the fabrication manager.
