PRECEPTOR COORDINATOR
STATUS: FULL-TIME
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Overview
Job Summary: Responsible for coordinating and managing the activities of the Clinical Training Program of the SPCC Atlanta AHEC. The activities include, but not limited to developing community-based training sites, recruitment of preceptors, managing clinical rotations of health professional students in Fulton, Clayton, and DeKalb counties, managing student housing and travel support stipends, and the development and maintenance of relationships with various community partners. Reports to the Executive Director.
Responsibilities
- Work cooperatively with the Executive Director, Continuing Education Coordinator, Health Careers Coordinator, and other staff members to facilitate clinical training efforts at SPCC Atlanta AHEC.
- Work closely with health professional training programs and schools to assess their needs for community-based and inter-professional clinical education training experiences.
- Serve as Liaison between School and Clinical Training site regarding the acquisition/execution of Affiliation and/or Facility Agreements as needed.
- Coordinate community-based clinical training experiences for students in the region.
- Visit AHEC training sites on a regular basis to provide support services.
- Develop and follow through with a plan for the recruitment of new training sites based on requests from health professional training programs and the priorities of the AHEC.
- Catalog current training sites in the region via database and notebook.
- Ensure that program data and student data are entered into the electronic and/or online database system (ADMS) and maintained accurately and timely.
- Develop and implement strategies to provide adequate administration of housing and travel support stipends, including providing guidelines to students regarding housing and travel support stipends.
- Provide the timely disbursement of housing and travel support funds to students and ensure adequate records are maintained.
- During the student’s preceptorship experience (clinical training), the preceptor coordinator is responsible for:
- Orient the student to the community and the needs of the underserved in the community and/or practice.
- Provide an overview of the mission and function of the AHEC to the students, community and preceptors.
- Provide information on available loan and scholarship information, including the National Health Services Corps.
- Serve as a liaison between the health professional school, the preceptorship and the student to ensure the maximum quality educational experience that meets the curriculum guidelines of the school and/or program.
- Provide information on guidelines relative to housing and travel support.
- Provide information on other programs and/or services offered by SPCC ATLANTA AHEC.
- Work with advisory committee(s) to address clinical training needs and concerns.
- Develop a plan for Graduate Tracking and follow-through in order to maintain accurate records of employment, including contacting graduates, data entry, and developing evaluation reports.
- Develop and follow through with a plan to provide assistance to students in knowledge of employment openings and communities with resumes of health care professionals.
- Coordinate specialized programs pertaining to the training of health professional students, e.g., AHEC Scholars Program, Pathways to Medicine Program, RN Re-entry, Mental Health First Aid, etc.
- Coordinate & Facilitate Mental Health First Aid Training Workshops within service area and other regions, including scheduling, participant recruitment, conducting in-person or virtual workshops, and collecting and maintaining evaluation data as assigned.
- Provide assistance with implementation of the GA AHEC Scholars Program.
- Produce annual, quarterly, and monthly work plans & reports of activities resulting from and related to the position.
- Assist Executive Director in developing reports for the appropriate funding source/entity, the Board of Directors, etc.
- Research and pursue funding opportunities for clinical training programs to include grants and contracts.
- Participates in grant writing and contract management for SPCC Atlanta AHEC.
- Provide current information on programs and activities to the person responsible for maintaining website, newsletter, and social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn).
- Market SPCC Atlanta AHEC Programs and Services by exhibiting at local, regional, or national events, as approved by the Executive Director.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to organize and establish working relationships with clinical coordinators.
- Effective communication skills, demonstrating ability to speak and write fluently in English.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced professional setting and complete multiple tasks with accuracy.
- Ability to work as an effective team player.
- Willingness to accept direction from supervisor.
- Skilled in using personal computers and various software programs to develop reports, presentation materials, program brochures, and other print and/or digital media. Word, Excel; PowerPoint; Canva, Adobe Photoshop, WordPress, etc.
- Extensive experience with Zoom and Teams Virtual Platforms.
- Ability to lift, push or pull 20 lbs. or equivalent required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in business or health related field preferred, with three years work experience. Bachelor’s degree in a business or medical/health related field, with a minimum of five years’ work experience.
- Work experience in higher education in admissions/recruitment or experience in a clinical setting is a plus.
- Instructor Certification in Mental Health First Aid is a plus.
- Must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.
- Requires remote travel.
- Valid Driver’s license required, as well as reliable transportation, and current automobile insurance.
- Occasional evening, weekend hours and overnight travel required.
