Job summary

Boys Town in Omaha, NE seeks a registered nurse to perform pre-operative assessments and collaborate with the health care team to plan and implement patient care.

Qualifications

  • RN license required.
  • BLS CPR certification required.
  • ACLS certified within six months of hire.
  • PALS certified within six months of hire.
  • Experience with electronic medical records required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform pre-operative assessments across physical, cognitive, spiritual and psychosocial domains.
  • Formulate and update care plans appropriate to patient age and development.
  • Ensure proper documentation and handoffs per policy and in medical records.
  • Supervise LPNs and sign off on charting.
  • Assess patient/family understanding and educational needs; adjust care as needed.
  • Participate in inservices and patient care conferences.
  • Support Joint Commission readiness and participate in performance improvement.
  • Communicate with Surgery Center staff and committees.
  • Provide patient care and education tailored to the population served.

Utilizes a systematic approach to nursing practice incorporating assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. Provides continuing health care and education to individuals and families to help them achieve their optimal level of health.



Schedule: Monday and Tuesday
9:00 AM-9:30 PM
Hiring Bonus: $5,000.00



MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:


  • In collaboration with other members of the health care team, the nurse uses the nursing process to complete the pre-operative physical, cognitive, spiritual and psychosocial assessment of patients awaiting surgery.

  • Formulates plan of care and reviews and revises plan on an ongoing basis. Able to plan and give care based on the patient's age and level of development.

  • Assures appropriate information management and documentation using the nursing process in accordance with hospital OR policy; gives reports to other members of the health care team.

  • Supervises LPN in direct patient care functions and responsible to sign off charting completed in the medical records.

  • In collaboration with other members of the health care team, the nurse uses the nursing process to assess patient/family understanding and response to care provided; and patient/family educational needs. The nurse redirects care as needed.

  • Participates in/or prepares for inservices and patient care conference.

  • Maintains \"The Joint Commission\" standards on an ongoing basis, and assists in unit responsibilities for readiness for Joint Commission visits.

  • Participates in department performance improvement activities.

  • Serves on hospital or system committees as assigned; maintains two-way communication between Surgery Center staff and assigned committee.

  • Provides patient care and education according to the patient population served.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:


  • Ability to demonstrate clinical competence in providing safe, quality direct patient care and patient and family education as well as assisting the provider in the delivery of advanced care.

  • Ability to communicate concisely with patients, families and staff; collaborate with other members of the health care team to enhance care.

  • Ability to make nursing assessments and critically think.

  • Possesses detailed knowledge of the use and maintenance of a wide variety of equipment and supplies.

  • Ability to complete patient documentation in a thorough, concise, accurate, and timely manner.

  • Ability to respond quickly and calmly to emergencies and stressful situations.

  • Ability to independently manage multiple priorities.



REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • A registered nurse who is a graduate of an accredited school with a current state license required.

  • CPR (BLS) certification required.

  • ACLS certified within six months of transfer or hire required.

  • PALS certified within six months of transfer or hire required.

  • Prior working knowledge of using computer programs and electronic medical records required.

  • On-call (continuously or rotationally) to provide support required.

  • Available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed required.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.

  • Minimum of two years of experience in an acute hospital setting preferred.

  • Pediatric experience preferred.
