Job summary

The YMCA of Central Maryland, Inc. is seeking a Pre Lifeguard associate who will complete all required training and certifications to become a certified lifeguard.

Under the direction of the Swim Director, this role also helps with safety, cleanliness and operation of the swimming pool during operating hours. The primary function is to provide general support to maintain safety for our members on the pool deck.

Responsibilities

• Focus on quality experiences and engagement within programs, services, and activities
• Understand the age and stages of youth development, and work with children
• Support communication between associates and members/parents
• Inform leaders of operating challenges, equipment/supply needs, and conflicts during operating hours
• Enforces YMCA of Central Maryland policies and best practices
• Encourage member engagement and outstanding member experience
• Foster a positive, motivating environment for families, children, and peers
• Coordinate facility usage for assigned programs and activities
• Support center’s annual fundraising campaign and leadership support to associates
• Work with diverse populations of all ages, genders, and orientations
• Attend and actively participate in all assigned meetings
• Incorporate the four YMCA values—Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility—and follow the Code of Conduct
• Communicate the YMCA mission and objectives to the community
• Assist in all other areas as assigned

This position is also responsible for assisting with safety, cleanliness and operation of the swimming pool during operating hours. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Must have understanding of the age and stages of youth development, and work with children


• Support communication between associates and members/parents


• Informing proper leaders of operating challenges, equipment/supply needs, and/or conflicts during operating hours (either with members and/or associates)


• Enforces Y in Central Maryland policies, guidelines, and best practices


• Encourage member engagement and outstanding member experience


• Foster an environment that is positive and motivating to families, children, and peers.


• Effectively coordinate facility usage for assigned programs and activities


• Supports center’s annual support campaign and provide leadership support to associate giving and engagement


• Ability to work with diverse population, all ages, genders, and sexual orientations


• Attend and actively participate in all meetings as assigned


• Incorporate the four character values of the YMCA: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility and adhere to the YCM Code of Conduct


• Communicate the Y mission and objectives to the community.
