POSITION SUMMARY:
Pre-Kindergarten Assistant provides support for the instructional program within the assigned Pre-Kindergarten (3, 4, and 5-year-olds) classroom with specific responsibility for working with individual and/or small groups of students, and providing clerical support to teacher/s and staff. This position reports to the Principal.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments (e.g., read stories, provide writing assistance, reinforce language skills, numbers, alphabet, computer learning programs, etc.) for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards.
Communicates with teachers for the purpose of administering classroom assignments and/or implementing classroom objectives. Provide support to teachers in the instructional process and in evaluating progress.
Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g., classroom, playground, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g., accidents, fights, appropriate and/or inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel. Participate in faculty meetings and required professional learning that will occur during the summer, after school hours, and some Saturdays during the school year.
All other duties as assigned, to perform the above services.
KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Previous employment in a Pre-K program preferred.
Makes recommendations or decisions that usually affect the entire department/school (supports instruction, supervision, and classroom operations to ensure a safe, consistent, and high-quality learning environment for young children).
Must hold or be eligible for a GaPSC-issued Paraprofessional License. Eligibility is based on the education requirements outlined in Formal Education. CPR/First Aid Required.
Varied; supervisor is available to review established broad objectives; independent judgment is required.
Requires regular, frequent communication with internal school administrative personnel.
Requires regular, frequent communication with various stakeholders: external agencies, parents, community, etc.
Excellent classroom management required.
Applies and implements technology to improve the effectiveness of school operations.
Constantly (Daily) responsible for the welfare of others.
Normal classroom/school setting.
Must be able to stand and walk approximately seven (7) to seven and one-half (7½) hours per day.
Light duty - Intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. Light lifting or carrying 20 lbs. or less.
NOTE: This is a grade 16, 190 day position that pays for experience Stes 6 - 8.
