Job summary

Wolverine Construction, headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is seeking an experienced steel erector to join our team. The role involves erecting steel columns, coordinating crane lifts, detailing PEMB components, and ensuring structural frames are square and plumb.

A strong background in PEMB projects and safety compliance is essential.

Qualifications

  • OSHA 10-Hour certification required or obtained within six months of hire.
  • OSHA 30-Hour certification preferred or required.
  • First Aid and CPR training required or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

  • Erects steel columns and connects rafters and columns to ensure square and plumb frame.
  • Assist in layout and preparation for structural steel erection.
  • Troubleshoot steel erection issues and direct crane operations when lifting beams and columns.
  • Operate tools including metal shears, torches, welding equipment to cut, bend, and weld steel.
  • Maintain safety and organization of the worksite and train new employees on safety procedures.

Responsibilities:
  • Erects steel columns and makes proper bolt connections between the rafters and columns, ensuring the building frame is square and plum before the siding and roof is started.
  • Assists in layout and preparation for structural steel erection.
  • Able to troubleshoot steel erection issues.
  • Uses metal shears, torches, and welding equipment to cut, bend, and weld steel.
  • Unloads, inventories, and organizes prefabricated steel so that it can be lifted easily with slings.
  • Directs a crane to lift steel beams, girders, and columns in place.
  • Ability to run a crew when Crew Leader is unavailable.
  • Ability to detail steel with little direction.
  • Works within the project timeline and budget.
  • Assists in sidewall panel system installation and layouts, ensuring proper layout for the installation of windows and doors as well as other equipment.
  • Conducts daily checks of equipment and safe operation procedures.
  • Meets the welding specifications of the blueprint and passes welding inspections.
  • Ensures new employees are familiar with Wolverine safety procedures and training.
  • Cleans work areas, machines, or equipment, to maintain a clean and safe job site.
  • Follows established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean environment.
  • Works as a team player.
  • Regular, predictable, and reliable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Must have reliable, consistent transportation.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Minimum of five (5) years relevant construction experience (Pre-engineered metal buildings, connecting, bolting)
  • The following trainings are required (and provided by Wolverine):
  • OSHA 10-Hour certified or completed within six months of hire.
  • Already or willing to become trained in:
  • First Aid and CPR
  • Licensed on equipment
  • OSHA 30-Hour certified
  • Proficient in and ability to lead four of the following: Metal Roofing, Metal Sidewall, Erection of PEMB, PEMB Trims
  • Certifications in welding and power actuated tools.
