Job summary

Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania is seeking a pre-doctoral Research Associate to support quantitative research in financial economics. The role involves data collection, analysis, and collaboration with faculty, with a clear path toward PhD applications in Economics or Finance.

The two-year term (July 1, 2027 - June 30, 2029) offers exposure to macroeconomics, household finance, and inequality, and opportunities to attend seminars and take graduate courses at Wharton.

Qualifications

• BA/BS or equivalent in Economics, Finance, Business, Public Policy, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline and 0-1 year of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Independent research experience, such as undergraduate research assistantships or thesis research.
• Proficiency in using statistical software such as Stata, R, or Python. Additional coding skills would be valued but not required.
• The ability to analyze data, create visualizations, and write reports.
• Intrinsic motivation and the capacity to manage work independently.
• A passionate mindset about economic research and quantitative data analysis with the intention of pursuing an economics or finance PhD.

Responsibilities

• Support quantitative research in financial economics.
• Work closely with Finance Professors and assist in data collection and quantitative analysis.
• Engage with topics in macroeconomics, household finance and inequality and participate in the Wharton research community.
