Job summary

Atlas Healthcare Partners’ Corewell Health Orthopedic Surgery Center – Grand Rapids is seeking a Pre-Assessment Testing Nurse to guide patients through the pre-operative process in a fast-paced ambulatory setting.

You will coordinate with physicians, staff, and patients, perform health assessments, and ensure documentation is complete before surgery. Strong communication and leadership are essential in this role.

Qualifications

• Current RN or LPN license in state of practice is required.
• BLS and ACLS certification required; PALS within 90 days for pediatrics.
• At least 1 year of RN/LPN experience, preferably in ambulatory settings.

Responsibilities

• Ensure charts have all documents/tests 1–3 days prior to the procedure to prevent delays.
• Obtain full patient health assessment and perform medication reconciliation.
• Follow admission criteria set by Medical Director and organization.
• Ensure BMI guidelines are followed.
• Assist patients with completing a pre-assessment module in Passport 1–3 days before surgery.
• Maintain PAT files on all outpatient surgeries.
• Serve as liaison between health care team to coordinate high-quality patient care.
• Provide nursing care in pre-op as directed by medical staff and PAT protocol.
• May greet and assist patients, visitors, physicians, and staff in the center.
• Other duties as assigned.

Corewell Health Orthopedic Surgery Center – Grand Rapids, managed by Atlas Healthcare Partners, is situated within the Orthopedic Health and Performance Center in Grand Rapids, MI. This state‑of‑the‑art facility spans 18,900 square feet within a larger 117,000 square feet complex dedicated to orthopedic excellence. The center boasts five advanced operating rooms and includes 20 PACU beds to accommodate a wide range of orthopedic procedures. Position Summary

The Pre‑Assessment Testing Nurse provides the highest level of patient care and will help guide patients through our pre‑assessment process as they prepare for surgery. The Pre‑Assessment Testing Nurse must have excellent communication skills as they will be working closely with our patients, physicians, physician office staff, and other staff members throughout the surgery center. The Pre‑Assessment Testing Nurse is expected to have a high‑level of comfort working in a fast‑paced, changing environment while managing multiple priorities.

Essential Functions

• Ensures all needed documents/tests are present on charts one to three days prior to the scheduled procedure while taking appropriate action to prevent delays and ensure the safest patient care on the day of surgery.
• Obtain a full patient health assessment and complete a medication reconciliation.
• Follow the admission criteria as set forth by the Medical Director and organization.
• Ensure BMI guidelines are being followed.
• Assist patients with completing a pre‑assessment module in Passport one to three days prior to the date of surgery.
• Maintain PAT files on all outpatient surgeries.
• The Pre‑assessment nurse will function as a liaison between all members of the health care team internally and externally to ensure coordination of high‑quality patient care.
• Provides nursing care in the pre‑op department as directed by medical staff and in accordance with PAT Nurse protocol and organizational company objectives and policies.
• Possess strong leadership and critical thinking skills.
• May provide general support to the surgery center, including greeting and assisting patients, visitors, physicians, and ancillary personnel.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• A current valid Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of practice is required.
• Current BLS and ACLS required.
• Certification is required. Requires skills and abilities typically attained with at least 1 year of recent RN or LPN experience, preferably in an ambulatory setting. *PALS certification required within 90 days of start date is assigned ASC services pediatrics.

Level I: 0-3 years of experience

Standard: 3+ years of experience

Preferred Qualifications

• A current valid Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of practice is required.
• Requires skills and abilities typically attained with at least 3-5 years of recent RN or LPN PAT experience, preferably in an ambulatory setting.
