Qualifications

  • Set up materials for techs to support material production including cassettes, slides, processing send-outs, and other procedures.
  • Maintain familiarity with LIS to manage workflow, document issues, and look up cases.

  • Support QA/QC, projects, and process evaluation.
  • Maintain a clean, organized space following bloodborne pathogen standards.
  • Communicate with staff to ensure patient care and safety.

We foster a personalized relationship with each client to ensure the highest level of service. We process specimens and return results in a quick time frame to give clinicians the information they need to treat their patients appropriately.

The laboratory assistant performs pre-analytical and post-analytical work to set up incoming specimens and support ongoing diagnostic testing specimen handling. This includes materials shared with other laboratory facilities. Their attention to detail, organization and accuracy as well as speed of work are key components as they impact every sample entering the lab.

NOTE: This is an OVERNIGHT position!

Job Specific Standards
  • Receive, accession and track incoming samples using the lab information system, Microsoft office programs and other manual methods.
  • Set up materials for techs to support material production including cassettes, slides, processing send-outs, returned send-outs, and other procedures as needed.
  • Has a strong working knowledge of basic computing programs (PC) as well as the lab information system (LIS) to manage workflow, document issues, look up cases and other routine inquiries. Able to follow a procedure to accession and perform other less frequent tasks on a PC and LIS.
  • Maintain supplies for accession and lab areas.
  • Support additional work including QA/QC, projects, and process evaluation.
  • Maintain a clean, organized space using blood borne pathogen standards for personal protective equipment and work areas.
  • Manage issues as they arise. Communicate with other staff to assure patient care and the safety of patients and staff.
Qualifications
  • Required: High school diploma or GED
  • Strongly Preferred: Associates degree, or higher, in science or health-related field
  • Strongly Preferred: Two years in specimen handling or other front medical office field requiring charting or accessioning.
  • Desirable: Medical terminology, Medical Assistance certification.
