Insulator – Bennettsville, SC

Job Responsibilities

• Apply, remove, and repair insulation on industrial equipment, pipes, ductwork, or other mechanical systems such as heat exchangers, tanks, and vessels, to help control noise and maintain temperatures.
• Cover, seal, or finish insulated surfaces or access holes with plastic covers, canvas strips, sealants, tape, cement or asphalt mastic.
• Determine the amounts and types of insulation needed, and methods of installation, based on location, surface shape, and equipment use.
• Fit insulation around obstructions and shape insulating materials and protective coverings as required.
• Install sheet metal around insulated pipes with screws to protect the insulation from weather or physical damage.
• Measure and cut insulation for covering surfaces, using tape measures, handsaws, knives and scissors.
• Prepare surfaces for insulation application by brushing or spreading adhesives, cement, or asphalt, or by attaching metal pins to surfaces.
• Read blueprints and specifications to determine job requirements.
• Select appropriate insulation such as fiberglass, Styrofoam, or cork based on heat retention or exclusion characteristics.
• Distribute insulating materials evenly into small spaces within floors, ceilings, or walls, using blowers and hose attachments.
• Fill blower hoppers with insulating materials.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in industrial insulation.
• Preference for 4 years’ experience in power plant or maintenance.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to complete hiring paperwork electronically via DocuSign.
• May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Must possess enough strength and stamina to perform technical duties and essential functions.
• Must be able to move in and around confined spaces and uneven areas.
• Must have full range of motion consistent with age.
• Must be able to climb and maintain balance on ladders.
• Must be able to adequately hear and respond to voice commands and alerts from other employees, alarms and other job-related noises.
• Visual acuity, depth perception and color discrimination consistent with requirements to work at heights and on uneven surfaces.
• Safety/steel toe shoes are required.
