Job summary

Veolia Environnement is seeking a Wastewater Plant Operator to oversee assigned treatment processes in a demanding industrial setting. You will operate equipment, monitor controls, collect samples, and keep accurate logs to ensure optimal process performance.

The role requires a High School diploma or GED and at least two years of related experience. Proficiency with Excel and Windows is expected, with the ability to wear SCBA and work on rotating shifts.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Two years of operation and maintenance experience with wastewater treatment equipment or powerhouse equipment.
  • Knowledge of operating wastewater equipment and related controls.
  • Familiarity with Windows-based computer systems and basic data entry.

Responsibilities

  • Operate assigned plant processes and treatment equipment.
  • Start/stop semiautomatic controls, troubleshoot, and refer issues to supervisor.
  • Record meter/gauge readings and prepare daily shift operation reports (Excel).
  • Take periodic lab samples and perform process-control tests.
  • Maintain logs and complete required documentation.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned.

Job Description
Position Purpose

Under supervision, responsible for the control of an assigned process by operation of wastewater treatment equipment; prepares daily log of routine activity. Work is performed in industrial environment and involves exposure to dust, odors, extremes in temperatures and humidity, noise, generally works rotating shift hours, on a schedule prepared by management. In addition to the normal industrial environment, the job may include exposure to sewage, confined spaces, gases and odors.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities
  • Operates assigned plant processes.
  • Operates assigned treatment plant equipment by starting/stopping and regulating semiautomatic controls, notes malfunctioning equipment and trouble shoots for needed repairs, and makes needed adjustments where possible and refers maintenance problems to the shift supervisor.
  • Records and interprets meter and gauge readings from equipment.
  • Takes periodic samples for laboratory analysis. Performs tests for process control.
  • Records activities in log and prepares and submits daily shift operational reports. (Excel based).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Environment
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background
  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • Two years experienced in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment equipment or powerhouse equipment.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Knowledge of operating equipment in wastewater treatment.
  • Knowledge of Windows based computer operating system.
  • Knowledge of the operation and adjustment of valves, mechanical pumps, motors, chemical feed systems, and semi-automatic controls.
  • Knowledge of sampling and laboratory procedures.
  • Ability to read and understand a variety of dials, meters, and gauges.
  • Communicates effectively via written, electronic and oral methods with co-workers, supervisors, managers, and others when necessary.
  • Ability to wear SCBA.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training
  • ASOPE PPO II Operator License required
  • Valid Wisconsin driver's license.
Physical Requirements
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and have the ability to wear breathing apparatus for confined entry.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
