Powerhouse Engineer (PER DIEM)

Per diem/On Call
- Operates and maintains boilers; observes various meters and gauges and takes appropriate action for safe operation.
- Starts, stops and switches over boiler as appropriate.
- Cleans and repairs boilers, blow tubes and discharge sediment; regulates feed water and condensation pumps and lubricates pump equipment.
- Cleans inside of boiler wall and repairs and/or replaces broken or worn parts.
- Tests emergency generators and logs results, reaction, etc. Tests boiler and cooling tower water samples; assigns proper chemical treatment to boiling and cooling waters.
- Performs periodic inspections of mechanical rooms throughout the hospital to ensure proper operation of heat, air conditioning and ventilation, and medical support equipment.
- Performs emergency maintenance repairs in the hospital when called between the hours of 3:30 pm and 7:00 am daily and all day Saturday, Sunday and holidays. Contact the on‑call Maintenance Mechanic or Facilities Manager if unable to make the necessary repair depending on the urgency of the repair.
- Checks operation of emergency generators during a power failure. Takes reading and resets relays that trip out. Checks and resets elevators and ensures that no individuals are in the elevator.
- Proficient knowledge of boilers, generators, elevators, air conditioning machinery/equipment.
- Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Post High School Vocational/Specialized Training
- Experience: 1‑3 years boiler room experience.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: License as a Boiler Operator preferred.
