Job summary

ABM Industries in Austin, TX is seeking Test Assistants to join our Electrical Power Services team. The Test Assistant supports inspection, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and documentation of electrical power distribution equipment in commercial, industrial, and utility environments.

This role performs entry‑level to developing technician work under the direction of senior technicians, engineers, or project leads.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 0–2 years related electrical, field service, electrical testing, utility, military, technical school, or industrial maintenance experience.
• Basic understanding of electrical theory, AC/DC circuits, power distribution equipment, and safe work practices.
• Ability to work under direct supervision and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Willingness to travel, work overtime, weekends, holidays, nights, and respond to outage or emergency work as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist with inspection, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and commissioning support for low- and medium-voltage electrical power systems.
• Set up, operate under supervision, and remove electrical test equipment and temporary test leads.
• Perform simple measurements and basic tests under direct supervision.
• Support testing of equipment such as switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers, cables, relays, meters, automatic transfer switches, batteries, and related electrical apparatus.
• Accurately collect test data, field notes, equipment information, and jobsite observations for customer reports.
• Follow established test procedures, safety policies, lockout/tagout requirements, and energized-work controls.
