Job summary

Jobtailor in Knoxville, TN is seeking an engineer to assemble PES hardware including power converters, energy storage, and related subsystems, ensuring proper mechanical fit, cabling, grounding, and labeling for rack-level and containerized systems.

You will develop test procedures, configure power supplies and battery emulators, measure electrical parameters, troubleshoot issues during bring-up, and produce wiring diagrams and as-built docs, while adhering to high-voltage safety.

Qualifications

  • LEVEL 2: 2 years relevant experience with Bachelor's in related field; or 0 years experience with Masters in related field.
  • LEVEL 3: 5 years relevant experience with Bachelor's in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field.
  • LEVEL 4: 9 years relevant experience with Bachelor's in related field; 7 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or 4 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field.
  • LEVEL 5: 15 years relevant experience with Bachelor's in related field; 13 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or 10 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field.
  • Experience with high-power electrical systems (10 kW and above).
  • Understanding of: AC and DC power systems, Power converters (rectifiers, inverters, DC-DC), Energy storage systems (batteries, supercapacitors), Protection devices (contactors, fuses, breakers).
  • Experience with electrical test equipment (DMMs, oscilloscopes, power analyzers, etc.).
  • Ability to read and generate schematics, wiring diagrams, and one-line diagrams.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble PES hardware including power converters, energy storage systems, PDUs, contactors, protection devices, and thermal subsystems.
  • Integrate rack‑level and containerized systems, ensuring proper mechanical fit, cabling, grounding, and labeling.
  • Support MOSA‑aligned architectures to maintain modularity and component interchangeability.
  • Develop and execute system‑level and component‑level test procedures.
  • Configure and operate programmable power supplies, loads, AFEs, and battery emulators.
  • Instrument systems to measure voltage, current, power quality, transients, and thermal behavior.
  • Diagnose hardware, wiring, firmware, and controls issues during bring‑up and testing.
  • Create and maintain wiring diagrams, one‑line diagrams, test reports, and as‑built documentation.
  • Follow and enforce high‑voltage and high‑energy electrical safety procedures.

  • Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a secret level security clearance.
