Overview

Shermco Industries is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Power System Studies Engineer to join our growing engineering team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience performing arc flash, short circuit, and protective device coordination studies for industrial, commercial, and utility-related electrical systems.

This position requires strong technical expertise, independent problem-solving abilities, sound engineering judgment, and a commitment to delivering accurate, high-quality engineering studies. The successful candidate will also be expected to provide technical guidance and mentorship to less-experienced engineers while collaborating with project managers, field personnel, and customers to ensure successful project execution. This is a hybrid role in Irving, TX.

Key Responsibilities and Expectations
  • Perform electrical power system studies, including Arc Flash Hazard Analysis, Short Circuit Analysis, and Protective Device Coordination Studies.
  • Develop, maintain, and validate electrical power system models using SKM PowerTools, ETAP, EasyPower, ASPEN, or comparable power system analysis software.
  • Review and interpret electrical single-line diagrams, equipment specifications, protective device information, and other technical documentation.
  • Analyze electrical distribution systems and evaluate protective device coordination, available fault currents, and arc flash incident energy levels.
  • Develop engineering reports, technical recommendations, protective device settings, and arc flash labeling information based on study findings.
  • Review customer-provided electrical system data for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Participate in on‑site electrical equipment data collection, field verification, and coordination with field service personnel as required.
  • Identify potential electrical system deficiencies and recommend practical solutions consistent with applicable industry standards and engineering best practices.
  • Manage assigned engineering tasks efficiently to meet project schedules, budgets, and quality expectations.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, project managers, and internal engineering teams regarding project requirements, technical findings, and deliverables.
  • Maintain a strong commitment to safety, technical accuracy, quality, and continuous professional development.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to junior and less-experienced engineers, assisting with their professional growth and development of power system analysis skills.
  • Support technical reviews and quality assurance activities, helping ensure engineering calculations, system models, reports, and recommendations meet established quality standards.
  • Serve as a technical resource for engineering team members by assisting with complex system modeling, analysis challenges, troubleshooting, and engineering decisions.
  • Share technical knowledge, engineering best practices, and lessons learned to support continuous improvement within the engineering team.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience performing electrical power system studies.
  • Demonstrated experience performing arc flash, short circuit, and protective device coordination studies.
  • Experience using SKM PowerTools, ETAP, EasyPower, ASPEN, or other recognized power system modeling and analysis software.
  • Working knowledge of electrical distribution systems, protective devices, transformers, motors, generators, and related electrical equipment.
  • Familiarity with applicable electrical engineering standards, including IEEE, NFPA 70E, NFPA 70 (NEC), and relevant ANSI standards.
  • Willingness and ability to perform hands‑on fieldwork, including on‑site electrical equipment data collection and verification.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in English, both verbally and in writing, with customers, coworkers, and other project stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
  • Willingness to travel to customer facilities and project sites as needed.
  • Willingness and demonstrated ability to mentor junior engineers, provide technical guidance, and contribute to the overall technical development of the engineering team.
