Job summary

GE Vernova is seeking a panel design engineer to own protection and control panels, perform design, testing and commissioning across generator-related systems. The role involves developing diagrams, wiring, and BOMs while interfacing with operations and project management on large grid modernization projects.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in panel design, strong power systems knowledge, and experience with Autocad/Ebase.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in panel design and related drawings (SLD, schematic, wiring diagrams).
  • Strong knowledge of power systems, protection schemes, and communication applications.
  • Experience creating test procedures for factory and site testing/commissioning of protection panels.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze customer applications/specifications and design protection/control panels (mechanical layout, SLD, schematics, wiring).
  • Take full technical execution responsibility for assigned projects.
  • Perform studies such as Load Calculation and Heat Rise Analysis.
  • Create test plans, procedures and reports.
  • Develop one-line and three-line diagrams to define project scope.
  • Design and review wiring diagrams, panel layouts, interconnections for relays/RTUs.

Role Summary

GE Vernova’s Grid Automation Control & Protection panel design engineer is a hands‑on, high‑impact engineering role responsible for owning the design, programming, testing, and commissioning of protection, SCADA, telecom, and control panels for generator, excitation, transformer, feeder, bus, line protection, and SCADA systems. Reporting to the CCS Engineering Manager or assigned Team Leader, this role supports the design and testing of protection panels, RTU panels, and Digital Control System (DCS) panels, while partnering closely with Operations and Project Management to help deliver critical power infrastructure solutions from concept through commissioning.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on complex, large-scale grid modernization projects and make a visible impact on critical energy infrastructure.

Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
  • Analyzing customer applications/specifications and designing protection and control panel mechanical layout, single line diagram, schematic diagram, power diagram, control diagram and Bill of Materials, engineering instruction, wiring drawing, wire list, wire tags to fulfill user specifications and requirements using Autocad/Ebase/Oracle/SAP

  • Take full technical execution responsibility to assigned projects

  • Perform engineering studies and analyses such as Load Calculation, Heat Rise Analysis, etc.

  • Create Test Plans/Procedures/Reports

  • Develop one line and three line diagrams that define project scope,

  • Create detailed AC and DC schematic diagrams, including control circuits, tripping schemes, metering, and auxiliary power systems.

  • Design and review wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and interconnection drawings for relays, RTUs, communication equipment, and station devices.

  • Perform P&C related engineering calculations such as CT/PT sizing, DC load calculations, breaker duty checks, and protection coordination studies.

  • May require travel up to 10% of the time depending on projects assigned

  • Provide training/peer check/design support to other members of the team.

  • Provide training materials/video of Ebase to help other members of the team

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in panel design, analyzing and creation of specification/compliance statement, single line diagram, schematic diagram, control diagram, wiring drawing and power diagram related to relay protections and control using Autocad/Ebase with detailed knowledge of design, studies, specifications and implementation in electrical generation, transmission and distribution systems

  • Strong knowledge of power systems, protection schemes and communication applications

  • Experience in creation of test procedure and maintenance procedure related to factory and site testing and commissioning protection panel

  • Excellent understanding of theoretical bases for all major protection principles including Distance, Line Differential, Transformer Differential, Bus, Feeder, Generator and Large Motor protection.

Desired Characteristics
  • Ability to apply advanced ideas in the technical engineering field and LEAN process to practical business problems

  • Experience in turn-key Protection and Control projects

  • Working knowledge with E Base panel design tool or AutoCAD tool

  • Strong understanding and experience with CSA, UL and CE requirements

  • Lean/6 Sigma Green belt or Black belt certification preferred

  • P.Eng Certified is an asset

  • Demonstrated team player, initiative to take the lead and mentoring of other members of the team

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work in a multicultural environment

  • Customer focused

Relocation Assistance Provided: No

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $89,300.00 and $148,700.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
