Overview of the Role

Executes day‑to‑day operations for physical and financial power trades generated by the trading desk. Ensures timely and accurate scheduling, nominations, and settlements in line with market rules and trader instructions. Maintains close collaboration with internal teams, system developers, and external counterparties to ensure efficient execution, system improvement, and risk mitigation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support day‑ahead and real‑time trading activities, including trade capture validation, ISO/RTO scheduling, and market settlement processes.
  • Act as primary operational contact for ISO/RTOs, counterparties, utilities, and other stakeholders, resolving discrepancies and outage impacts.
  • Ensure accurate submission of E‑tags, NERC tags, and other operational data for physical delivery.
  • Maintain workday records and cover for team members during vacation or illness.
  • Support desk compliance with ISO/RTO rules, FERC regulations, and internal policies.
  • Track alignment between trade capture systems (Endur, Allegro, spreadsheets) and ISO settlement systems.
  • Coordinate onboarding of new counterparties in collaboration with Legal, Credit, and Contracts.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of ISO‑specific processes, rules, penalties, and settlement timelines.
  • Train junior staff and support cross‑training across desks.
  • Review cost allocations for accuracy and attribute trades to PnL and risk books.
  • Monitor imbalance charges, uplift fees, and settlements to minimize exposure and maximize commercial efficiency.
  • Assist monthly close process with accrual estimates and reconciliation support.
  • Maintain logs for capacity tags, ancillary services, CRRs, FTRs, and congestion hedges.
  • Participate in system upgrades, automation projects, and improvement initiatives across ETRM and tagging platforms.
  • Collaborate with in‑house developers to improve operational tools and internal platforms, providing feedback on roadmap priorities.
  • Support business continuity planning and respond to grid reliability events or weather‑driven spikes.
  • Advise traders on operational constraints, grid congestion risks, and locational delivery challenges.
Professional Expectations
  • Operate with attention to detail, reliability, and a full understanding of market timelines.
  • Maintain positive relationships with ISO/RTO operators and market participants.
  • Mentor junior operators, providing training materials and coaching.
  • Lead by example with strict adherence to compliance, market rules, and company ethics (FERC, NERC, ABC).
  • Provide weekly reporting on key issues, volumes scheduled, penalties avoided/incurred, and system anomalies.
  • Identify process inefficiencies or IT enhancements to improve speed, accuracy, or automation.
  • Proactively identify operational gaps or staffing needs during desk growth or market expansion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating, optimizing or operating power assets such as generation units, batteries or flexible loads to support trading strategies and real‑time obligations.
