Job summary

The Regents of the University of California, on behalf of the Los Angeles Campus, seeks a Research Analyst to support an evaluation project by coordinating data collection, performing quantitative and qualitative analysis, and producing reports and presentations for diverse audiences.

The role requires strong research, writing, and communication skills, with active engagement with community partners and stakeholders in Southern California. Some travel within California may be required.

Qualifications

Strong research and writing skills demonstrated in prior work.
Public speaking experience and ability to present findings clearly.
Experience with media engagement and outreach.
Knowledge of immigrant youth issues and related policies.
Experience using participatory education methods.
Experience coordinating research projects and data plans.
Quantitative skills with survey/census data; familiarity with Qualtrics and statistics software.
Qualitative skills: interviews, focus groups, coding and analysis software.
Ability to conduct literature reviews across industries and policies.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with diverse audiences.
Strong written and verbal reporting ability with attention to detail.
Experience in initiating and managing workloads independently.
Background in industrial relations or labor economics is a plus.
Familiarity with Labor Center goals and programs is a plus.

Department Summary

The Research Analyst will support the evaluation of the Economic Liberation Project by coordinating data collection, conducting quantitative and qualitative analysis, producing reports and presentations, and collaborating with community partners and the evaluation team to disseminate findings. The Institute for Research on Labor and Employment (IRLE) is a multidisciplinary research center dedicated to advancing labor research and education for workplace justice.

Position Summary

The Research Analyst will support the evaluation of the Economic Liberation Project for the POWER team. Key responsibilities include coordinating research and evaluation data-collection efforts; cleaning, coding, and analyzing data; writing reports and briefs; and disseminating findings. The role requires active engagement with community partners and stakeholders in Long Beach, California. The Research Analyst will collaborate with the evaluation team to produce reports and create visually compelling materials for diverse audiences.

Salary & Compensation

Project coordination experience, including adherence to project timelines, liaising with partners, overseeing fielding and data plans. (Required)

Quantitative experience including familiarity with survey and census datasets, survey platforms (i.e. Qualtrics), and statistical software (i.e. STATA or R.) For qualitative, experience includes experience conducting interviews and focus groups, coding, and using analysis software (i.e. Dedoose). (Required)

Ability to conduct literature reviews on a wide range of topics, industries, and policies. (Required)

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work well with community partners, stakeholders, and academics through community-lead research and students as well as labor leaders and rank and file workers. (Required)

Verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to summarize and present complex information in a clear and concise manner. (Required)

Demonstrated ability to write and edit engaging, clear, precise, and grammatically correct reports and articles, with strong attention to detail and quality control, for scholarly, policy, and popular audiences. (Required)

Demonstrated quantitative or qualitative research skills, such as developing protocols, conducting surveys, focus groups, or interviews, cleaning and analyzing data, and summarizing findings. (Required)

Ability to take initiative and manage workload with minimal supervision. (Required)

Coursework and/or applied research experience in industrial relations, labor economics, and/or labor market analysis. (Preferred)

Familiarity with Labor Center professional goals and objectives, programs and constituency groups. (Preferred)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

Bachelor's Degree in related area and / or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (Required)

Master's Degree In Public Policy, Sociology, Economics / in related area (Preferred)

Must possess, upon hire, and maintain a valid CA noncommercial Class C License in accordance with the California (CA) Department of Motor Vehicles. (Required)
