Vistra is seeking a Plant Operator to manage overall operations from the Control Room, monitor plant systems, start/stop operations, and respond to alarms in a safe, compliant manner.
The role requires 2–4 years of power plant experience, a High School diploma or GED, basic computer skills, and successful POSS/MASS pre-employment testing. Ontelaunee Plant, Pennsylvania, is referenced in the job description.
Responsible for the overall operations to include operating, monitoring, and controlling the status of all power plant systems from the Control Room. Executes plant shut-down and start ups, responds to alarms and equipment issues, coordinates maintenance and work with current plant conditions and commercial commitments. Responsible for preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure proper functioning of equipment at a Gas Plant for the Gas fleet. Responsible for promoting safe, effective, and reliable operation.
Key Accountabilities:
2 -4 years of related experience Power plant experience preferred Satisfactory completion of Tier 1 job performance measures composed of basic: Operations, Mechanical, Electrical, and Instrument and Controls High School diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent Demonstrate standard computer based skills Demonstrate effective oral & verbal communications skills Independent knowledge of troubleshooting Ability to work well under pressure and make decisions in a fast-paced dynamic environment All applicants must be a successful candidate on the Plant Operator Selection System/Power Plant Operations and Maintenance (POSS / MASS) program in order to be considered a candidate for this position. Must be flexible to changing conditions and situations. Must be able to respond calmly and think clearly in emergency situations. When required for operation, maintenance or safety emergencies must be able to quickly access all areas of the plant including confined spaces, high elevations and hot areas. Must be able to visually read and respond to computer-generated data, instrumentation, gauges, readouts and variations in color. Must have manual dexterity required to operate keyboards, pushbuttons, dials and valves. Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and enter confined space as required to complete assigned tasks. Ability to lift 50 lbs of weight. Ability to pass respirator physical and fit test. Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and other documents. Independently prioritize the workload and multitask to achieve completion of assigned tasks on time. Interact with all levels of management in a professional manner. Ability to manage external relationships with vendors and other contractors. Must be able to successfully pass POSS/MASS pre‑employment test. Position can be filled at level 1-4 depending on skill and experience.
