We are seeking an experienced Power PDN Test Engineer to support power delivery validation for Microsoft Surface products. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in motherboard-level power validation, electrical characterization, power management debugging, and Python-based test automation.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on power delivery validation experience on consumer electronics or compute platforms.
- Strong experience with motherboard-level DC-DC converter validation, including output regulation, ripple, transient response, efficiency, switching node analysis, and power state validation.
- Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes (1 GHz+), SMUs, electronic loads, programmable power supplies, DAQ systems, and passive, active, differential, and current probes.
- Experience performing system-level power validation, including leakage measurements, point-of-load voltage noise, brownout prevention, UVLO characterization, and low-power measurements.
- Proficiency in Python scripting for test automation and extending existing automation frameworks.
- Experience debugging power delivery and power management issues using waveform analysis and electrical measurements.
- Ability to read and interpret motherboard schematics, PDN block diagrams, and power architecture.
- Experience with software tools for log collection, driver installation, and software-side debugging.
- Knowledge of ESD-safe lab practices, calibration procedures, fixture handling, and traceability documentation.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting consumer electronics OEMs such as Microsoft, Apple, Google, Samsung, Dell, HP, or Lenovo.
- Experience validating Intel and Qualcomm SoC platforms and battery charging systems.
- Knowledge of power validation across RF, display, audio, storage, memory, camera, sensors, keyboard, touchpad, and haptics.
- Understanding of SMPS, LDO, load switch architectures, PCB layout, and PDN optimization.
- Familiarity with Windows power management and Modern Standby (S0ix, S3, S4, S5).
- Board-level hardware troubleshooting and rework experience, including diagnosing shorts, opens, solder defects, and component issues.
- Ability to work independently and deliver structured test reports with minimal supervision.
