Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of North American power markets and wholesale electricity fundamentals.
• Experience with ISO/RTO markets (ERCOT, PJM, MISO, CAISO, SPP).
• Proficient in Excel, SQL, Python, Power BI, Tableau, or similar analysis tools.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

• Provide consulting and analytical support to power trading, risk, and commercial teams.
• Conduct market analysis on supply/demand, transmission constraints, congestion, generation economics, weather, and regulatory developments.
• Develop market insights, pricing analysis, and trading recommendations for decision-making.

• Analyze and improve trading workflows, processes, and data management practices.
• Support implementation and enhancement of trading, risk, and analytics systems.

Overview

Our client is seeking a Power Markets Consultant to join a growing energy trading and commercial advisory team in Houston. This individual will work closely with traders, originators, risk managers, analysts, and technology teams to deliver market insights, trading analytics, process improvements, and strategic solutions across North American power markets. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of wholesale electricity markets, market fundamentals, risk management, and trading operations, coupled with the ability to solve complex commercial and analytical challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide consulting and analytical support to power trading, risk, and commercial teams across physical and financial power markets.
• Conduct market analysis focused on supply and demand fundamentals, transmission constraints, congestion patterns, generation economics, weather impacts, and regulatory developments.
• Develop and deliver market insights, pricing analysis, and trading recommendations to support commercial decision-making.
• Partner with front-office stakeholders to evaluate trading opportunities and optimize portfolio performance.
• Analyze and improve trading workflows, operational processes, and data management practices.
• Support the implementation and enhancement of trading, risk, and analytics systems.
• Develop reports, dashboards, and analytical tools that improve market visibility and risk management capabilities.
• Collaborate with quantitative, technology, and business teams to deliver scalable solutions for the trading organization.

• Strong knowledge of North American power markets and wholesale electricity market fundamentals.
• Experience working with ISO/RTO markets, including ERCOT, PJM, MISO, CAISO, or SPP.
• Strong analytical skills with experience utilizing Excel, SQL, Python, Power BI, Tableau, or similar analytical tools.
• Understanding of power trading, congestion, transmission, generation dispatch, and risk management concepts.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to explain complex market dynamics to both technical and commercial audiences.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting power traders, commercial teams, utilities, IPPs, energy marketers, or asset-backed trading organizations.
• Familiarity with ETRM platforms and market analytics tools.
• Exposure to congestion markets, FTRs/CRRs, ancillary services, capacity markets, or renewable energy markets.
• Prior consulting experience within the energy or commodities sector.
