Job summary

The Garland utility department seeks a Power Line Technician to build and maintain overhead and underground electric distribution, transmission, substations, and lighting systems within the GP&L service area. The role involves installing, removing, and maintaining transmission, distribution, substation and service line equipment.

Responsibilities include diagnosing disturbances, replacing lines, attending safety training, and occasional travel to remote facilities.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required, 1-2 years related experience or Lineman College certification.
• Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License.
• Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker Endorsement or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Repair and replace distribution power lines between generating stations, substations and customers/owners.
• Build and maintain transmission/distribution/substation electric system facilities.
• Identify, diagnose and repair system disturbances and abnormalities.
• Prepare service requests to identify locations and/or causes of malfunctions or problems.
• Attend on-site and off-site safety training classes.
• Standby duties and callout assistance after regular working hours.
• Occasional travel to remote system facilities.
• Other duties as assigned.
