Job summary

HDR is seeking a Civil Transmission Line Intern/Co-Op to join our Resources Business Group in Raleigh or Charlotte, NC. You will assist with the civil and structural design of overhead transmission lines, support PLS-CADD models, and help prepare drawings, calculations, and specifications under guidance from senior engineers.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program, with a GPA of 3.0+ and familiarity with NESC/ASCE/IEEE standards.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program.
• Prefer 2 years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA.
• Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to transmission line design including PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE.
• Knowledge of industry codes and standards (NESC, ASCE, IEEE).
• Internship or coursework related to power transmission systems.
• Preference will be given to local candidates.
• Basic Microsoft Office skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the civil and structural design of overhead transmission lines, including route development and structure selection.
• Support development and review of PLS-CADD models, drawings, and calculations under experienced engineers.
• Perform entry-level calculations related to transmission structures and foundations.
• Prepare and update engineering drawings, material quantities, cost estimates, specs, and design documentation.
• Coordinate with transmission line engineers, civil/geotechnical teams, surveyors, environmental specialists, and designers.
• Assist with field activities such as site visits and data review while following safety requirements.
