Job description

POWER GENERATION TECHNICIAN

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today, SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of making life multiplanetary and expanding consciousness to the stars. SpaceXSI is building Super Intelligence to help humanity understand the universe. Our teams are building the full Super Intelligence stack: from our Colossus supercomputers, to Grok models, to our suite of applications, including Grok Bot, Grok Build, Grok Imagine, Grok Voice, and X. We’re creating a powerful flywheel where more compute trains better models, better models power more useful products, and what we learn from people using those products shapes what we build next.

As a Facilities Operations Technician at SpaceXSI, you’ll dive in, operating and maintaining the critical facility systems that power our supercomputing data centers. Working hands‑on with MEP systems, you’ll tackle maintenance, operations, and repairs, ensuring peak performance and reliability. Expect to troubleshoot complex issues, streamline processes, and collaborate with teams to keep our infrastructure running smoothly, directly supporting SpaceXSI mission to accelerate human scientific discovery through AI.

You will independently operate and maintain critical mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems in supercomputing data centers, ensuring high reliability and performance through hands‑on maintenance, troubleshooting, and process optimization.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for site safety and environmental compliance of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) infrastructure, ensuring facilities align with local and regional health and safety requirements

  • Provide operational expertise for MEP systems at the data center, including systems and equipment such as pumps, piping, chillers, cooling towers, CRAH units, wiring, lighting systems, generators, motors, water supply, UPS, and switchgear

  • Routinely inspect all areas to ensure performance measures are being maintained and proactively report facility issues

  • Write and execute method of procedures (MOPs), standard operating procedures (SOPs), and emergency operating procedures (EOPs)

  • Perform daily inspections of critical systems

  • Identify and maintain spare parts inventory to minimize downtime

  • Coordinate and supervise scheduled system shutdowns

  • Develop and implement energy-monitoring metrics

  • Support commissioning efforts by witnessing equipment startup, assisting with functional testing, and monitoring construction progress

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, or 2+ years of hands‑on experience in operations or facilities work

  • Experience writing or maintaining critical systems documentation, including plans, procedures, and operations manuals

  • Experience with building and electrical power monitoring systems and operations

  • Experience with PLC‑based control systems and/or with building management systems (Client)

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong troubleshooting skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and technical writing skills in English

  • Experience with mechanical or electrical systems in a facilities or data center environment

  • Knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical engineering principles and systems

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted

  • Must be able to utilize hand tools and power tools as needed

  • Work is often performed in tight quarters; physical dexterity is necessary to perform job functions

  • Able to work at elevated heights (up to 100 feet) with appropriate safety gear

  • Able to work in extreme outdoor environments (heat, cold, rain, etc.)

  • Able to work in an environment with exposure to fumes, odors, and noise
  • Must be willing to work flexible shifts that provide 24x7 coverage as needed, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

  • Position is subject to pre‑employment drug testing and random drug and alcohol testing

  • Position is subject to pre‑employment and annual post‑employment background checks

  • Must be willing to travel as needed (up to 10%)

  • Valid driver’s license
