Job summary

Interstate Power Systems in Bismarck, North Dakota is seeking a Power Generation Technician to maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and commission diesel, LP, and natural gas generators and related systems. You will work on diverse projects, ensuring power systems operate safely and reliably for our clients.

The ideal candidate has at least 2 years of experience in power generation, strong knowledge of engines and electrical systems, and the ability to travel to job sites and work on-call.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Power Generation Technician or in a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel and natural gas engines, electrical systems, and control panels.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools, multimeters, and testing equipment.
  • Ability to travel to various job sites and work flexible hours, including on-call shifts.
  • Valid driver license; CDL is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on power generation equipment, including generators, engines, and control systems.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and electronic issues in generator systems.
  • Conduct load bank testing, system upgrades, commissioning testing and certification, and installations as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, regulations, and company protocols.
  • Document service activities, including reports on maintenance, repairs, and parts used.
  • Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively with clients to ensure excellent service.
  • Respond to emergency service calls and provide on-call support.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and service vehicles in good condition.
  • Willingness to travel and potentially overnight stays depending on customer needs.

Job Summary

As a Power Generation Technician, you will be responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and commissioning of power generation equipment, including diesel, LP, and natural gas generators, transfer switches, and related systems. You will work on a variety of projects, ensuring our clients' power systems operate efficiently and reliably. This role requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on power generation equipment, including generators, engines, and control systems.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and electronic issues in generator systems.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Power Generation Technician or in a related field preferred (e.g., diesel mechanic, electrical technician).
  • Strong knowledge of diesel and natural gas engines, electrical systems, and control panels.
  • Familiarity with generator brands such as MTU, Cummins, Caterpillar, Kohler, or similar.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, multimeters, and other testing equipment.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; CDL is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel to various job sites and work flexible hours, including on-call shifts.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform physical tasks such as climbing, bending, and working in confined spaces.
  • Comfortable working in various weather conditions and environments.
