Job summary

Overview

JOB SUMMARY:The Power & Fiber Project Manager is the senior presence in the field and has overall responsibility for the safety, quality, technical, and administrative success of power and fiber scope within larger projects. The Power & Fiber Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the installation of 5kv-35kV power, 96-244 strand fiber optic cable, and associated components. This position is Doyon Industrial Group’s (DIG) senior electrical representative for project planning, installation, testing, and closeout. This position coordinates schedules, verifies adequate and appropriate equipment/labor are available, reviews field reports, tracks direct and subcontractor costs, manages work per the IBEW Collective Bargaining Agreement, and coordinates the electrical scope with the client. This position will be based in Fairbanks and then transition to the North Slope.

SCHEDULE: Town - Mon-Fri+; Projects - Mon-Sun

HOURS: Town – 40+, Projects – 70+

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understand, practice, and continually lead by example Doyon Industrial Group’s commitment to zero incident safety and environmental culture.
  • Provide overall project management and leadership on new pipeline construction, rehabilitation of existing pipelines, and oilfield maintenance projects.
  • Continually promotes a strong working relationship with the client.
  • Write official letters, memoranda, reports, and all other correspondence to clients and subcontractors.
  • Continually promotes superior quality workmanship and safety.
  • During project planning, work with corporate management, subcontractors, estimators, and client personnel on preparation of work sequencing, implementation of lessons learned, alternative solutions, and execution plans for new and continuing projects.
  • Review documentation created by others for reporting purposes.
  • Be proactive in addressing potential issues before they become critical.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Understand the risks of power and communication infrastructure associated with pipeline construction projects.
  • Recognize the importance of quality workmanship and performing tasks safely. Be visible on the jobsite and a vocal proponent of quality and safety to project personnel.
  • Excellent understanding and working knowledge of all contracts, work orders, change orders, and similar documents governing each project and ensuring internal compliance with applicable terms and conditions.
  • Strong understanding and working knowledge of IBEW union agreements governing craft employees or subcontractors.
  • Continually promote and practice teamwork.
  • Demonstrate leadership, motivation, and interpersonal skills in managing people, processes, and simultaneous and concurrent projects.
  • Understanding of how corporate policies, procedures, practices, and processes relate to projects, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Participate in required client meetings to include management, cost controls, construction, and other meetings as required.
Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • College degree in construction management, engineering, or related and equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of management experience on power & fiber construction related to pipeline installation and maintenance projects.
  • Oil and Gas industry and/or Government experience on union contracts.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Effective listening, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and report writing skills.
  • Must have strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Adobe, and Windows.
  • Must be able to maintain composure under pressure.
  • Ability to understand the totality of project scope and the reasoning behind decisions made by construction supervision to keep projects on schedule and within budgets.
  • Strong ability to reason with client's project management, technical authorities, and construction supervision.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 40+ pounds.
  • May be required to stand, sit, or walk for reasonable periods of time.
  • Operate personal computer for extended periods.
  • Work outdoors in weather extremes and near equipment with potentially high noise levels.
  • Work rotations on the North Slope of Alaska lasting 6-8 weeks in duration with 4-7 days off slope between rotations.
