Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is seeking a Power Engineer to contribute to wildfire mitigation and advanced protection solutions, including High Impedance Fault detection. You will work with industry experts to solve power system challenges and influence next-generation protection technologies.

Primary responsibilities include developing protection concepts, supporting customer applications, and collaborating on R&D for robust power system protection.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years' experience in electric power systems, protection practices, and philosophies.
  • Excellent technical training skills.
  • Working knowledge of apparatus and protective relay application at an electrical utility or industrial plant.
  • Understanding of signal processing and digital systems fundamentals.
  • Strong analytical, writing, documentation, and speaking skills and ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.
  • Ability to code in Python. Ability to understand code.

  • Demonstrate the ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies, concepts, and methodologies.

As a Power Engineer, you will contribute to innovative research and development focused on wildfire mitigation and advanced protection solutions, including High Impedance Fault (HIF) detection. This position has the option to be location in Pullman or Lynnwood, WA.

Salary Range Data

We anticipate filling this position as a Power Engineer $97,000 - $144,000 per year. Our compensation ranges are based on the responsibilities of the role. Starting pay is determined individually and considers factors such as relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and training. Candidates may be considered at different levels based on their background. As a result, pay may vary to align with the level of the role.
