Job summary

Qualifications

  • 5+ years hands-on electrical engineering experience in automotive or related fields.
  • Experience troubleshooting EMI issues.
  • Experience with PCBs and Altium Designer.
  • Embedded firmware development experience is a plus.
  • LTspice or circuit simulation experience.

Responsibilities

  • Test power converters including inverters, on-board chargers, and energy storage systems.
  • Automate test stands and CAN-based control of power converters.
  • Design schematics and instrument PCBs for manufacturing input.
  • Conduct environmental testing including shock and vibration.
  • Instrument high-voltage test setups with low-inductance methods.
  • Perform EMC testing at component and vehicle level.
  • Dyno testing, troubleshooting, and data analysis for inverter testing.
  • Support design releases and supplier feedback.
  • Set up test benches for board-level and vehicle bring-up.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot electrical issues.
  • Engage suppliers to identify components.
  • Generate technical reports and present reviews.
  • Support external facilities testing and proving grounds as needed.

Power Electronics Technician

Location: Garden Grove, California, United States

Compensation: $30 - $40 USD / hour

Lead validation and testing of high‑voltage power electronics from bench to vehicle integration across stages

Job Overview

As a member of the Electrical Engineering team, this role will focus on validation, testing, and design of high‑voltage electronics components such as inverters, on‑board chargers, and energy storage products. The role offers the unique opportunity to be part of a design‑to‑production team culture.

What You’ll Do:
  • Component level and device level testing of power converters including inverters, on‑board chargers, and energy storage systems
  • Automate test stands and CAN‑based control of power converters
  • Design schematics and instrument PCBAs, providing inputs for design for manufacturing
  • Environmental testing, including shock, vibration testing, and data analysis
  • Instrument high‑voltage test setups using low‑inductance measurement practices
  • Component level and vehicle level testing for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)
  • Dyno testing, troubleshooting, and data analysis for inverter testing with drive units
  • Support design releases and modifications based on vendor feedback
  • Set up test benches and support board‑level, component‑level, and vehicle‑level bring‑up at in‑house and external facilities
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to troubleshoot and provide fixes for electrical issues as they arise
  • Engage with suppliers and sourcing to identify components for sourcing and procurement
  • Generate technical reports and present at critical review meetings
  • Support testing at external facilities and vehicle‑level testing at proving grounds as needed
Who You Are:
  • Highly motivated to drive results and to grow in the career of electrical engineering
  • Strong hands‑on capability for testing and troubleshooting complex electrical components and systems
  • 5+ years of hands‑on experience in electrical engineering in the automotive, robotics, aerospace, or similar fields
  • Experience with troubleshooting EMI related issues is a strong plus
  • Experience with PCBs is a strong plus
  • Experience and familiarity with Altium Designer or similar schematics capture and PCB layout tools is a strong plus
  • Embedded firmware development and programming experience is a strong plus
  • Experience with circuit simulation software such as LTspice
  • Experience with software and digital communication specifications and requirements is a plus
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate within a dynamic team environment
