Job description

Control Systems, Inc. (CSi) is seeking a Power Electronics Hardware Engineer to join our engineering team. This is a hands-on hardware development role focused on the design, development, bring-up, and validation of embedded electronic systems, with an emphasis on power electronics, motor control, and PCB design.

The ideal candidate is an engineer who enjoys taking hardware from concept through a working prototype. You will be involved throughout the development process—from circuit design and component selection to PCB development, prototype bring-up, troubleshooting, system integration, and testing.

While PCB and electronic hardware design will be the primary focus of this position, the role will also involve embedded firmware, wiring and electromechanical integration, EMI/EMC troubleshooting, and hardware validation.

Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (Green Card holder).
  • H-1B visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Responsibilities
  • Design analog, digital, and power electronic circuits for embedded control systems.
  • Design and develop power electronics and motor-control hardware, including:
  • MOSFET/GaN power stages
  • DC/DC power supplies
  • Current and voltage sensing
  • Protection and input/output circuitry
  • Select components and perform engineering analysis to support design decisions and component sizing.
  • Perform prototype hardware bring-up, commissioning, troubleshooting, and failure analysis.
  • Use oscilloscopes, current probes, electronic loads, power supplies, logic analyzers, and other laboratory equipment to characterize and debug hardware.
  • Knowledge in C for embedded a big plus for hardware bring-up, testing, and troubleshooting as well as production code if skillset is refined.
  • Work with common embedded interfaces and peripherals such as PWM, ADC, CAN/CAN FD, SPI, I2C, UART, and GPIO.
  • Support system-level electrical and electromechanical integration, including sensors, actuators, motors, connectors, and wiring harnesses.
  • Design or support the development of wiring harnesses and electrical interconnects.
  • Troubleshoot EMI/EMC, grounding, noise, transient, and electrical integration issues.
  • Develop test methods and fixtures for engineering validation.
  • Support functional, performance, environmental, and design-validation testing.
  • Work closely with embedded software, mechanical, controls, manufacturing, and test engineers throughout the product-development process.
  • Support design reviews, documentation, production release, and troubleshooting of hardware during development and manufacturing.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience designing and debugging PCB-based electronic hardware.
  • Strong understanding of fundamental analog and digital electronics.
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB design tools.
  • Hands-on experience bringing up and debugging prototype PCBs.
  • Comfortable working in an electronics laboratory and troubleshooting hardware at the circuit level.
  • Ability to read datasheets, application notes, schematics, and technical documentation and apply them to practical designs.
  • Working knowledge of embedded C and microcontroller-based systems.
  • Understanding of PCB layout considerations for power electronics, high-current circuits, switching power supplies, and/or motor drives.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to investigate difficult hardware and system-level problems.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:

  • Power electronics and switching power supplies
  • BLDC or PMSM motor control
  • MOSFET or GaN-based power stages
  • Gate-driver design and optimization
  • Current sensing and measurement
  • Automotive, aerospace, industrial, or other harsh-environment electronics
  • EMI/EMC design and troubleshooting
  • Environmental and qualification testing
  • Altium Designer or similar PCB design software
  • Design for manufacturability and production electronics
What We're Looking For

We are looking for a hands-on engineer who enjoys building and troubleshooting real hardware.

  • This position is particularly well suited to an engineer who enjoys owning hardware throughout the development cycle rather than specializing in only one portion of the design process with strong hands-on experience.
