Job summary

Trane Technologies, a world leader in climate solutions, seeks a Power Electronics Engineer to lead VFD qualification and drive integration of variable speed drives into Trane Commercial HVAC equipment. The role covers device selection, specification definition, and system-level qualification, with approximately 5-10% travel and onsite work Monday through Thursday, Fridays flexible.

A Bachelors in Electrical Engineering or Technology is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology is required.
• Basic knowledge of electrical circuits.
• Ability to work with cross-functional or global teams.
• HVAC equipment knowledge is a plus.
• Knowledge of motor-drive compatibility and interactions is a plus.
• Systems integration/engineering knowledge is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Qualify VFDs for use in Trane products.
• Apply variable speed drives to HVAC equipment, especially compressors and fans.
• Interface unit level controls and safety features to the drive.
• Optimize VFD cooling for product specific needs.
• Analyze motor-drive compatibility and tune the electrical system for optimal performance.
• Write specifications for electrical components in the motor-drive system.
• Conduct qualification testing of the motor-drive system.
• Provide lifecycle support of the product, including field and factory problem resolution.
• Work as part of multi-functional development team to meet overall program goals.
• Some overnight travel required, approximately 5-10%.

Where Is The Work
Monday to Thursday, work onsite with your colleagues. Fridays, choose your work location, balancing what your work requires.
As a Power Electronics Engineer, you will be responsible for all application aspects for power electronic devices: NPD, RTS, VAVE and Quality. This role is responsible for integrating variable speed drives into Trane Commercial HVAC equipment. Some of the additional responsibilities include device selection recommendations, define device application specification, component level qualification of devices, system level qualification of devices, tuning of drive/motor pairings, parameter settings and troubleshooting factory and field issues.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology is required.

• Aptitude to quickly learn.
• HVAC equipment /system knowledge a plus.
