Job summary

Ingenuity Design Group in Golden, CO, is seeking a Power Electronics Design Engineer to own hardware design from concept to production. You will collaborate with systems, embedded software, and mechanical teams to deliver robust, manufacturable power-electronics solutions for diverse industries.

You will lead analog, digital, and power-circuit design, perform prototyping and verification, and drive pre-compliance testing while producing clear specifications and documentation.

Qualifications

• Authorized to permanently work in the United States.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or equivalent.
• 5+ years electronics product-development experience.
• 3+ years hands-on power-electronics experience, high-voltage/high-current.
• Experience taking products from concept through prototype, verification, and production.
• Strong analog, digital, and power-circuit design skills.
• Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB layout in Altium.

Responsibilities

• Develop power-electronics products including converters, inverters, motor drives, power supplies, and power-distribution systems.
• Own schematics, component selection, calculations, PCB layout, and technical documentation.
• Design analog, digital, and power circuits including sensing, isolation, protection, gate drive, and MCU interfaces.
• Design and review PCBs in Altium, with attention to thermal performance, EMI/EMC, DFM/DFT.
• Collaborate with the mechanical team on heatsinks, cold plates, enclosures, and thermal interfaces.
• Collaborate with embedded software and systems teams to verify hardware interfaces.
• Bring up, test, debug, and improve prototypes.
• Plan and perform functional, electrical, thermal, safety, and pre-compliance verification.
• Support product compliance and work with external test laboratories.
• Prepare specifications, test plans, reports, BOMs, and manufacturing-release documentation.
• Participate in design reviews and provide technical support to customers and teammates.
• Support technical estimating, risk identification, and design trade-off decisions.

Job description

As a Power Electronics Design Engineer, you will develop innovative electronic products from early concept through prototype, verification, and production release. You will take ownership of power electronics hardware design while collaborating closely with systems, embedded software, mechanical, and industrial design teams. Ingenuity develops real-world commercial products across a range of industries. This role is suited to a practical, hands-on engineer who can make sound technical decisions in an evolving consulting environment, communicate clearly with clients and teammates, and bring robust, manufacturable products to life.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop power-electronics products including converters, inverters, motor drives, power supplies, and power-distribution systems.
• Own schematics, component selection, calculations, PCB layout, and technical documentation.
• Design analog, digital, and power circuits including sensing, isolation, protection, gate drive, and MCU interfaces.
• Design and review PCBs in Altium, with attention to thermal performance, high-current and high-voltage design, parasitic inductance and capacitance, EMI/EMC, DFM, and DFT.
• Collaborate closely with the mechanical team on the design and verification of heatsinks, cold plates, enclosures, and related thermal interfaces.
• Collaborate with embedded software and systems teams to define, implement, and verify hardware-software interfaces for power-electronics control, sensing, protection, fault handling, and communications.
• Bring up, test, debug, and improve prototypes.
• Plan and perform functional, electrical, thermal, safety, and pre-compliance verification.
• Support product compliance and work with external test laboratories, as applicable.
• Prepare clear specifications, test plans, reports, BOMs, and manufacturing-release documentation.
• Participate in design reviews and provide technical support to customers and teammates.

Skills and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or equivalent relevant experience.
• 5+ years of electronics product-development experience.
• 3+ years of hands-on power-electronics experience, including high-voltage and/or high-current systems.
• Experience taking products from concept through prototype, verification, and production.
• Strong analog, digital, and power-circuit design skills.
• Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB layout in Altium or a similar tool.
• Strong hands-on hardware bring-up, testing, and troubleshooting capability.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills; able to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
• Converters, inverters, motor drives, power supplies, battery systems, or other high-power products.
• MOSFETs, IGBTs, SiC, or GaN devices; magnetics; thermal design; isolation; and protection circuits.
• Working knowledge of high-voltage safety, isolation, protection methods, and PCB layout practices for power electronics.
• Power-control microcontrollers such as TI C2000, NXP, STM32, or dsPIC33.
• CAN, USB, Ethernet, I2C, SPI, UART, RS-232, or RS-485.
• Power-electronics lab testing, including oscilloscopes, power analyzers, thermal testing, double-pulse testing, HIL, or dynamometer testing.
