Job summary

The Marvin Group, a defense contractor based in Southern California near LAX, seeks a Power Electronics Engineer to lead the design of high‑power motor drives, power converters, and battery management for defense programs. You will develop hardware with embedded processors and DSPs, integrate CAN, ModBus, USB, Ethernet, I2C, Wi‑Fi/Bluetooth, and ensure EMC/EMI compliance throughout lifecycle.

The role requires US citizenship and offers an export‑controlled environment.

Qualifications

• US citizenship or permanent residency is required.
• A Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree or equivalent professional experience is required.
• A degree in Electrical Engineering or related focus is preferred.
• Minimum 7 years of proven experience working in power electronics engineering is required.
• Experience in manufacturing of similar structural products and/or components (e.g., aerospace, military/defense, automotive, etc.) is required.
• Advanced knowledge of electric drives and electrical circuits (Altium Preferred).
• Familiarity with networking protocols and standards, including TCP/IP, CAN, Bluetooth.
• Experience with integration of military systems/standards is a plus.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to work well within a team.
• Must be able to speak/read/write English.
• Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Design high-power motor controllers, power regulators, high efficiency AC-DC power converters, DC-DC converters, synchronous rectifiers and battery management solutions.
• Design hardware for motor control systems utilizing embedded processors, DSPs, memory devices, OPAMPs, A/D and D/A converters, as well as interfaces such as RS232, CAN, ModBus, USB, Ethernet and I2C, plus Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth.
• Support new product introduction to manufacturing and through product lifecycle.
• Design PCBs for motor control hardware with EMC/ EMI considerations.
• Design hardware for high temperature environments.
• Capture designs using DxDesigner, Allegro for schematic capture.
• Design PCB layout, heat and transient control.
• Robust testing/validation/documentation methodology for design verification.
• Supervise and support junior engineers.

Scope

As part of the R&D team, the Power Electronics Engineer will development of products, such as motor drives, switch mode power supplies, power factor correction units, etc.

Responsibilities

• Design high-power motor controllers, power regulators, high efficiency AC-DC power converters, DC-DC converters, synchronous rectifiers and battery management solutions.
• Design hardware for motor control systems utilizing embedded processors, DSPs, memory devices, OPAMPs, A/D and D/A converters, as well as other peripheral devices such as RS232, RS485, CAN bus, ModBus, USB interfaces, Ethernet and I2C interfaces as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
• Support new product introduction to manufacturing and through product lifecycle.
• Design PCBs for motor control hardware utilizing techniques to prevent EMC and EMI.
• Designing and selecting hardware for high temperature environments.
• Capture designs utilizing DxDesigner, Allegro for design and schematic capture
• Design PCB layout, to control of heat and transients.
• Robust testing / validation / documentation methodology for design verification.
• Supervise and support junior engineers.

Salary Range

$150,000 - $180,000 (based on skills, education, and experience)
