Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Project Manager I to support substation engineering projects within the Power Delivery Solutions division. You will lead project teams, manage scope, cost, and schedules, and collaborate with clients and internal stakeholders across multiple offices in a hybrid environment.

The role emphasizes line‑of‑sight reporting, quality control, and client liaison while providing opportunities for mentorship, leadership training, and professional growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Finance or a closely related discipline is required.
  • 3+ years of Project Management experience.
  • Experience with project management software (e.g., MS Project, P6).
  • Experience managing and reporting project financial performance, budgets, proposals, scopes and schedules.
  • Must be able to plan, organize, direct, and track technical efforts on project tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Independently lead project teams to complete engineering designs of electric infrastructure projects for electric utilities.
  • Accept responsibility for overall project performance and reporting.
  • Manage project costs, schedule and scope within approved limits, including recovery plans.
  • Ensure contract compliance.
  • Coordinate with Engineering Leads and Managers to track and execute client deliverables.
  • Ensure and document adherence to the quality control process.
  • Interface with the client and internal management to report progress, costs, schedule adherence and risks across programs.
  • Communicate with clients, internal teams, and subcontractors.
  • Prepare bid documents; Develop cost estimates and responses to RFQs.
  • Complete monthly invoices, accruals, and accounts receivable within prescribed time frames.
  • Identify business development opportunities.

Job description

Leidos Engineering has an opportunity for a Project Manager I (PM I) who will work alongside lead engineers and account managers supporting substation engineering projects for various electric utility clients throughout the Northern United States. The PM will be part of an established team within our Power Delivery Solutions (PDS) division. PDS provides consulting services to public-owned and investor-owned electric utilities for comprehensive engineering design of electrical transmission, substation, and distribution projects nationwide.

This position supports a hybrid work environment, with an expectation of regular in-office collaboration with engineering and project management teams. This role can be performed from Walled Lake MI, Pittsburgh PA or Chicago IL, depending on the location of the selected candidate.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Independently lead project teams to complete engineering designs of various sized electric infrastructure projects for electric utilities
  • Accept responsibility for overall project performance and reporting
  • Manage project costs, schedule and scope within approved limits, including the development of recovery plans when needed
  • Ensure contract compliance
  • Drive work products by coordinating and working with Engineering Leads and Managers to track and execute client deliverables
  • Ensure and document adherence to the quality control process
  • Interface directly with the client and internal management to solve issues and report progress, costs, schedule adherence and risks across a program of projects
  • Communicate with clients, internal project teams, multiple engineering disciplines, functional leaders, subcontractors, and support personnel
  • Prepare bid documents; Develop cost estimates and responses to Requests for Proposal
  • Complete monthly invoices, accruals, and accounts receivable within prescribed time frames
  • Identify business development opportunities
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Finance or a closely related discipline is required
  • A minimum of three (3) + years of relevant Project Management experience
  • Experience with project management software (e.g., MS Project, P6)
  • Demonstrated experience managing and reporting project financial performance, budgets, proposals, scopes and schedules
  • Must have the capability to plan, organize, direct, and track technical efforts on project tasks
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to interact with customer representatives in an effective manner
  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills and the ability to multi-task effectively
  • Experience with MS Office Software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Periodic travel (less than 2%); Candidates should possess a valid US driver’s license
  • Hybrid office attendance (2-3 days in office, remaining days work from home) in one of the following offices: Walled Lake, MI; Pittsburgh PA; Chicago, IL
Preferred Qualifications:
  • PMP Certification
  • Familiarity with electric power infrastructure projects and knowledge of business issues associated with power delivery services
  • Demonstrated success with a team approach to the consulting business
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel

Pay Range $59,150.00 - $106,925.00
