Job description

Power Business Research and Analytics Manager – Devens, MA

About Commonwealth Fusion Systems:

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is on a mission to deliver the urgent transition to fusion energy. Combining decades of research, top talent, and new technologies, we’re designing and building commercially viable fusion power plants. And we're working with policymakers, suppliers, and many others to build the energy industry of the future. We’re in the best position to make it happen. Since 2018, we’ve raised $4 billion of capital, making us the largest and leading fusion company in the world. Now we’re looking for more thinkers, doers, builders, and makers to join us. People who’ll bring new perspectives, solve tough problems, and thrive as part of a team.

If that’s you and this role fits, we want to hear from you.

In this role, you will apply rigorous analysis to the commercialization of fusion power within the broader context of the evolving U.S. and global electric power sectors.

You will develop specialized subject matter expertise on critical drivers of the urgent transition to fusion energy—including commercial deal structuring, scaling a new technology, and how our fusion technology integrates into future energy markets.

Working alongside world-class leaders in the premier private fusion enterprise, you will gain unmatched visibility into the commercial mechanics establishing this new industry.

We are seeking a driven, highly analytical professional who thrives in fast‑paced, ambiguous environments. Essential qualities include strong initiative, rapid adaptability, and the capacity to convert raw research into actionable insights that drive business outcomes. You will seamlessly bridge high‑level corporate strategy and hands‑on execution while managing shifting priorities. This is a career‑launching role for a professional willing to dedicate themselves to the urgent transition to fusion energy.

What you’ll do:
  • Operational Analysis: Lead quantitative and qualitative analyses to support the day‑to‑day operations of the Commercial Power Business teams. Establish governance processes and tracking mechanisms to ensure the team executes efficiently on project timelines. Produce high-integrity work with strong attention to detail and limited supervision - deliverables may include memos, talking points, slide decks, excel models, and customer briefing materials.
  • Customer‑Centric Support: Support customer and partner engagements by preparing tailored briefing materials. Participating in stakeholder meetings. Help manage early‑stage customer onboarding and project development activities. Translate complex technical information into clear business implications, risks, decision points, and recommended actions. Contribute to a continuously improving stakeholder experience when engaging with CFS.
  • Energy Policy, Utility Regulatory, and Energy Market Research: Work with Government Affairs to monitor, analyze, and synthesize regulatory developments, utility tariffs, interconnection processes, and local/federal clean energy policies to identify business implications and support strategic decision‑making. Conduct market intelligence, competitive assessments, and benchmarking to inform strategic decision‑making. Work with our Government Affairs teams to support the development of testimony and energy policy documents - this includes conducting research, networking with subject matter experts, drafting briefing papers, and providing analytical support to ensure our commercial strategy is well‑represented in key policy forums and industry initiatives.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Partner seamlessly with the existing fusion economics, engineering, marketing and comms, government affairs, and legal teams by gathering required market data, providing operational insights, and ensuring fluid information exchange across the enterprise.
  • Scalable Business Systems: Design and optimize scalable business development workflows and implement technology, automation, and AI‑enabled solutions to drive operational efficiency and organizational effectiveness.
  • Executive Communications: Develop, format, and refine executive‑level presentations, proposals, and decision‑support materials.
What we’re looking for:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Public Policy, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 5 years of pre‑ or post‑MBA professional experience in energy markets, business development, financial analysis, consulting, or project finance
  • Exceptional project management skills and written/verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment and engage with individuals at all organizational levels
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex ideas in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Strong capabilities in regulatory research, data synthesis, and operational reporting
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and MS PowerPoint (executive presentations)
  • Exceptional problem‑solving abilities
Bonus points for:
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent advanced degree
  • Experience in state public utility commission filings, PMP certification, proficiency with project scheduling software (MS Project, Primavera P6), and GIS applications
  • Experience within the clean energy transition, independent power generation, electric utilities, or working with large corporate energy buyers
  • Familiarity with wholesale power markets (e.g., ISOs/RTOs), power generation economics, or energy transition technologies
  • Demonstrated project management experience, including planning, execution, risk management, and measurable business impact
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., PowerBI), project management software, or CRM platforms
Must‑have requirements:
  • Perform activities such as typing, standing, and sitting, for extended periods of time
  • Willingness to occasionally travel or work required nights/weekends/on‑call - this position will require up to 10% travel
  • Work in a facility that contains industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics
