Job summary

Steampunk is hiring a Power BI Data Visualization Engineer to join a large team serving federal clients. You will identify data sources and create decision-support dashboards to translate complex data into actionable insights for quick decision making.

The role requires strong communication, problem solving, and data visualization expertise, with an emphasis on security, performance, and stakeholder collaboration. On-site work in McLean, VA may be involved.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or related discipline.
• Graduate degree in Mathematics or Statistics preferred.
• 10 years of experience in data science, including mathematics/statistics/programming, modeling data, and ML with diverse data sets.
• 1 year of leadership experience in a data science field.
• Ability to lead or participate in analytic use cases.
• Self-starter with ownership, able to manage multiple projects independently.
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills, able to explain complex concepts simply.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Subject Matter Expert for a large contract with a federal agency, creating dashboards and reports.
• Deliver visually appealing and actionable analytics for quick client understanding.
• Design, develop, and deliver analytics solutions considering functionality, data, security, and performance.

• Help define enterprise data and technology needs to support BI and analytics.
• Facilitate meetings with diverse viewpoints and support an Agile lifecycle.

Overview

Steampunk wants you to join our awesome team as Power BI Data Visualization Engineer. In this role you'll be working with a large team of Steampunk and clients to identify data sources, tools, and mission challenges that can all be brought together to create decision-supporting insights and information. Your main goal in this work is to use the data that we have as a team and client base to provide meaningful information and representations of data to enable our client to make better and quicker decisions. We are looking for more than just a "Data Visualization Engineer", but a technologist with excellent communication and customer service skills and a passion for data and problem solving.

Contributions

• Will be a Subject Matter Expert for a large contract supporting a major federal agency and will be responsible for creating visually appealing and operationally impactful dashboards and reports. This impactful work will translate our client's data into actionable insights
• Use expert knowledge of data visualization tools to deliver information that allows client users to quickly understand data, ask better questions, and take action
• Design, develop, and deliver analytics solutions with consideration for functionality, data, security, integration, infrastructure, and performance
• Collaborate with clients and stakeholders
• Help define enterprise data and technology needs to support business intelligence and analytics
• Facilitate meetings with diverse and sometimes conflicting points of view
• Support an Agile software development lifecycle
• You will contribute to the growth of our Data Exploitation Practice!

Qualifications

• Ability to hold a position of public trust with the US government.
• Bachelor's degree (in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or other related discipline). A graduate degree in Mathematics or Statistics is preferred.
• 10 years of experience in data science field to include mathematics/statistics/programming modeling data and machine learning with a multitude of data sets (health/law enforcement/drug data preferred).

• 1 year of leadership experience, such as functioning as a team lead, lead analyst, mentor, etc. in a data science field.

• Ability to lead or participate in business sessions to identify and document analytic use cases

• Ability to be a self-starter, take ownership of opportunities, work independently, and manage simultaneous projects
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to explain advanced concepts to audiences of varying levels using simple terms

Preferred:

• Current DEA or Secret Clearance

The projected compensation range for this position is $110,000 to $160,000. The estimate displayed represents a typical annual salary range for this position.
