Job summary

SJS Industrial, also doing business as SJS Executives, LLC (SJS), is seeking a full-time Powder Coater to join a fast-paced shop in Virginia Beach, VA. Shifts run 6:00am–2:30pm and 12:00pm–9:30pm, with potential overtime; relocation to Virginia Beach is required.

This role emphasizes teamwork, safety, and precise workmanship to meet customer specifications. Ideal candidates have 5+ years of powder coating experience, can pass an in-person test, and can interpret drawings and work orders.

Qualifications

• 5+ years experience in powder coating.
• Able to pass an in-person Powder Coat performance test.
• Experience powder coating in industrial or maritime environments.
• Understand drawings, specs, and technical details on work orders.
• Strong communication for safety concerns and paperwork.
• Physically able to stand, walk, bend, lift up to 30 pounds, in a noisy facility.
• Must pass drug test and background check.

Responsibilities

• Operate powder coating booths and ovens per OEM instructions.
• Start up/shut down equipment and ensure proper curing time.
• Inspect guns, compressors and related tools before each shift.
• Coordinate preventative maintenance for uptime.
• Coat objects to required mil thickness and monitor gauges.
• Update leadership on equipment status and issues.
• Suggest improvements to speed, quality or efficiency.
• Perform other production tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Job description

THIS POSITION WILL REQUIRE TO RELOCATION TO VIRGINIA BEACH, VA.

SJS Industrial, a veteran owned media blasting, industrial painting, powder coating, and light fabrication shop in Virginia Beach, VA, that serves military and maritime customers, is seeking a full-time, experienced professional Powder Coater to work Monday through Friday from 6am to 2:30pm and 12:00pm to 9:30pm. Work will start on the 1st Shift and move to 2nd.

Saturday or evening shifts might happen occasionally if there is a special project with a tight deadline, but the goal is a steady and reliable Monday through Friday 40-hour work week, as occasional overtime may be required.

The pay range for this position will be based on experience and in-person test which will be $25-$34/hr. We also offer 7 paid holidays, 2 floating holidays, and 80 hours of PTO, and a very comprehensive medical, dental, vision package.

The ideal candidate for this position is an experienced Powder Coater with recent technical experience applying industrial or marine coatings to metal components. This person will also enjoy collaborating with others within a fast-paced team environment and will exhibit conscientious and careful workmanship to ensure customer technical requirements are fulfilled.

Responsibilities include:

• Operate all equipment following Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) instructions for safety and correct use (no hacks or shortcuts)
• Start up and shut down powder coating booths; ensure the proper operation of the oven to cure parts for the specified amount of time
• Before commencing each shift, inspect applicator guns, air compressors/pumps, and related tools and equipment to ensure safety and functionality.
• Coordinate with maintenance technicians to schedule regular preventative maintenance, thereby ensuring maximum uptime of Powder Coating booth, Oven and other equipment.
• Coat objects at the correct mil thickness; observe equipment, booth gauges, and control panels as necessary to achieve optimal coating
• Regularly update senior personnel about the general operational status of the booths, ovens, and equipment, and any emergent issues or problems.
• Make suggestions to leadership about how to improve speed, quality, or efficiency of production.
• Other production-related tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Production Manager, Coatings Supervisor, or the company officers.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years experience in powder coating
• Be able to pass an in-person Powder Coat performance test
• Demonstrated career experience powder coating in an industrial or maritime/marine environment.
• Understand the basic physical properties and mechanics of powder Coating for metals.
• Be able to understand and accurately interpret line drawings, specifications, and technical details shown on work orders to be able to correctly apply the right type/brand, color, and mil thickness of Powder Coating.
• Strong communication skills (because of safety concerns, the need to communicate about potential hazards with others, and to fill in technical paperwork, which requires verbal accuracy and specificity)
• This is a fast-paced physical job in a production facility requiring interaction with a work team in a noisy environment, so the ability to see and hear clearly, stand, walk, bend over, crouch, and lift and carry objects that are up to 30 pounds in weight are all required. Must be physically capable of spending the majority of every work shift standing, moving, or walking
• Must be able to successfully pass a drug test and background check.
