Job summary

Cayuse is seeking a Senior PostgreSQL Database Administrator to support client production environments, ensuring the performance, integrity, and security of PostgreSQL databases. This role will design architecture, oversee installation, configuration, and tuning to meet business needs.

The ideal candidate will have strong PostgreSQL expertise, SQL/PL/pgSQL, Linux/Unix experience, and knowledge of HA/DR and security patches. On-site in the National Capitol Region is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, IT, or related field.
  • Strong expertise in PostgreSQL database administration, tuning, management and security.
  • Proficiency in SQL and PL/pgSQL or similar procedural language.
  • Familiarity with database design, documentation, and coding.
  • Experience with Linux/Unix and scripting languages such as Bash, Python or Perl.
  • Knowledge of high availability and disaster recovery options for PostgreSQL.
  • Good understanding of hardware performance, memory and I/O.
  • Top Secret Clearance is required.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.

Responsibilities

Job description

Overview

The Postgres Database Administrator, Senior, will support the database operations for our client to strengthen and expand the client’s production environment. This role will ensure the performance, integrity, and security of the unit’s PostgreSQL database.


This position performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of Cayuse.


Responsibilities


  • Design and implement database architecture that supports business requirements and achieves high performance, availability, and security.

  • Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of PostgreSQL databases.

  • Conduct performance tuning of database systems, including queries, stored procedures, and indexing strategies.

  • Develop and implement database backup, recovery, and failover procedures.

  • Assist in the design and development of data models and database solutions.

Desired Qualifications:



  • PostgreSQL certification (e.g., PostgreSQL Certified Engineer).

  • Experience with cloud services (AWS, Azure, OCI) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Familiarity with other database systems (e.g. Oracle and MSSQL

Working Conditions



  • Professional office environment.

  • Ability to work on-site at client’s facility in the National Capitol Region.

  • Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties extended periods of time.

  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed to meet the demands of this position.

  • Must be able to establish a productive and professional workspace.

  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time looking at computer screen.

  • May be asked to work a flexible schedule which may include holidays.

  • May be asked to travel for business or professional development purposes.

  • May be asked to work hours outside of normal business hours.
