Cedars-Sinai is seeking a Postdoctoral Scientist to join the Predrag Jevtic, PhD laboratory. The goal is to understand UPS regulation of gene expression and its role in cancer, with focus on SCF-FBXL14 and Groucho/TLE cofactors.
You will work independently under supervision, contribute to publications, and help translate mechanistic insights into therapeutic strategies. The role requires a Doctorate in Biochemistry, Cell biology, Cancer biology, or related field, strong data analysis skills, and
The goal of the Jevtic laboratory is to elucidate the mechanisms by which the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) regulates gene expression and influences cell fate decisions, and to determine how perturbations in these pathways contribute to human disease. Central to this pathway is the E3 ubiquitin ligase SCF-FBXL14, which interacts with the Groucho/TLE family of transcriptional co-repressors. TLEs are essential regulators of development that are frequently altered in cancer. Through its association with TLE proteins, SCF-FBXL14 controls diverse families of dozens lineage-specific repressive transcription factors that govern the development of most tissues and organ systems and their altered function causes congenital disorders and cancer.
My laboratory seeks to understand how the control of gene repression contributes to human disease and to develop innovative strategies for harnessing the UPS to affectcancer tissues. We aim to reveal how restoring normal gene repression in cancer might provide a new approach to cancer treatment that could be applied to tumors characterized by altered gene repression. Additionally, our findings will identify biomarkers that define tumors most likely to depend on this pathway.
In our lab we combine human stem cell and cancer models with genomic, proteomic, biochemical, and structural approaches. By bringing this mechanistic work together with the outstanding medical expertise, clinical resources, and research environment at Cedars-Sinai, we aim to uncover how defective ubiquitin-dependent control of gene expression causes disease and to translate these insights into new therapeutic strategies.
Working independently but in close cooperation and in consultation with the Principal Investigator and other Research Scientists, the Postdoctoral Scientist will perform routine and complex laboratory procedures throughout training period. May develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols. Analyzes and interprets data. May assist in preparation of grant proposals. Participates in publications and presentations as author or co-author. Not responsible for generating grant funds.
