The Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Physical Oceanography & Ocean Biogeochemistry, based in Portland, Maine. The role focuses on coastal and shelf processes and their biogeochemical implications, tying ocean physics to carbon cycling and oxygen dynamics in the Northwest Atlantic and Gulf of Maine.

The successful candidate will analyze large observational datasets, model outputs, and climate simulations using Python and/or R,

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in a relevant oceanography or climate-related field.
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills and proficiency in Python and/or R for large dataset analysis.
• Experience with large datasets and high-performance computing.

Responsibilities

• Design and conduct research on coastal and shelf ocean dynamics and biogeochemical processes.
• Analyze large and complex datasets using Python- and/or R-based workflows.
• Investigate physical-biogeochemical coupling, including carbon and oxygen variability.
• Contribute to regional ocean modeling and/or climate projection analyses.
• Translate scientific findings into publications, reports, and presentations.
• Contribute to the development of research proposals and grant applications.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across GMRI and partner institutions.
• Provide mentorship to interns, students, and research associates.
