Job summary

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar to support NIH-funded research programs focused on developing selective, non-cytotoxic inhibitors of N-glycosylation for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer.

The candidate will participate in multidisciplinary efforts spanning medicinal chemistry, cancer biology, glycobiology, and pharmacology.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, or related field.
  • Experience with multistep organic synthesis and structure elucidation.
  • Strong record of analytical technique use (NMR, LC-MS, HRMS, HPLC).

Responsibilities

  • Designs, synthesizes, and evaluates novel inhibitors from natural product scaffolds for metastatic cancers.
  • Plans and executes multistep organic syntheses using modern methods.
  • Purifies and characterizes compounds with NMR, LC-MS, HPLC, and related techniques.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team for structure-based drug design and optimization.
  • Prepares progress reports for the PI and presents findings in group meetings.
  • Evaluates literature and technologies for potential application to ongoing work.
  • Analyzes data, interprets results, and proposes subsequent strategies.
  • Engages in professional development to stay current in synthetic organic chemistry and cancer research.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
