Physical Requirements

· Ability to work in a laboratory environment for extended periods (standing, walking, repetitive tasks)

· Ability to lift and move up to 25–30 pounds

· Fine motor skills to manipulate laboratory instruments and small materials

· Ability to work safely with chemicals, biological samples, and laboratory equipment

· Ability to wear PPE including lab coat, gloves, and safety glasses

· Visual acuity for microscopy and detailed sample observation

· Occasional animal handling (mice) may be required

· Occasional evening or weekend work may be necessary depending on experimental needs

Shift

8am-5pm, 40 hours per week, with occasional evenings and weekends dependent upon the requirements of the experiments running.

Job Summary

The Laboratory of Nanomedicine and Immunoengineering in the F. Joseph Halcomb III , M.D. Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Kentucky has an opening for a postdoctoral scholar research position. The laboratory develops interdisciplinary technologies for spatially controlled genome editing, nanomedicine, cancer immunotherapy, and therapeutic delivery. The successful candidate will conduct independent and collaborative research on NIH -funded projects involving CRISPR -based genome editing, viral and nonviral delivery systems, tumor immunology, engineered extracellular vesicles, and preclinical cancer models. Responsibilities will include planning and performing experiments; collecting, processing, and analyzing experimental data; developing and optimizing research protocols; maintaining accurate research records; and interpreting results in the context of current scientific literature. The candidate will prepare manuscripts and scientific presentations, contribute to grant and proposal development, and present research findings at scientific meetings. Additional responsibilities may include mentoring graduate and undergraduate researchers, assisting with laboratory operations, and contributing to a safe, collaborative, and productive research environment.

The position provides opportunities to develop independent research directions and professional skills for careers in academia, biotechnology, or related fields. The initial appointment will be for 12 months, with the possibility of renewal based on satisfactory performance and continued availability of funding.
