Job summary

The University of Florida's IFAS is recruiting a Postdoc to lead a hard clam breeding program and address environmental stressors affecting shellfish culture. The appointee will collaborate with shellfish farmers, private hatcheries, and industry partners near Cedar Key, FL, and will develop their own research priorities with potential extramural funding.

Supervision will be provided by UF/IFAS Nature Coast Biological Station and the Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences program.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in biology, ecology, genetics, or physiology with shellfish experience.
  • Candidates must support UF mission and commit to UF core values.
  • Preferred: shellfish ecology/physiology and/or aquaculture experience.
  • Experience with genetic methods is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a clam breeding program and conduct research on stressors affecting growth and survival.
  • Collaborate with clam farmers, private hatcheries, and industry partners.
  • Develop independent research priorities and pursue extramural funding.
  • Engage in outreach via social media, conferences, and industry communications.
