Job description

Position Overview

We are looking for an independent and highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join our active and vibrant laboratory. The primary research focus is to study the host innate immune response as a barrier to cross‑species retrovirus transmission in non‑human primates. The fully‑founded project will characterize the viral and host factors that drive selection, adaptation, and pathogenicity of HIV‑1 and SHIVs and uncover the molecular and mechanistic basis of adaptation to the macaque innate and adaptive immune responses. This interdisciplinary research combines HIV‑1 transmission biology, translational immunology, epidemiology, and basic molecular virology.

Responsibilities
  • 80% research: design and perform experiments on host innate immune responses to cross‑species retrovirus transmission in non‑human primates, characterize viral and host factors influencing SHIV evolution in ex‑vivo macaque cells, generate experimental data to support publications and grant proposals, and pursue independent funding opportunities.
  • 15% writing: prepare research reports, manuscripts, seminars, and presentations for ongoing research progress.
  • 5% other organizational and lab management duties as assigned.
  • Successfully complete a University background check.
Qualifications
  • Strong publication record in virology or related fields.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Past experience in the HIV field strongly preferred.
  • Experience in protein purification and biochemical/biophysical characterization of Envelope glycoproteins and membranes is encouraged.
