The Tang Lab at the University of Virginia School of Medicine seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate with a background in cellular and molecular biology to study the molecular mechanisms of R-loop regulation and DNA-protein crosslinks.

This 12‑month appointment is based in Charlottesville, VA and on-site, with opportunities to publish results and contribute to cancer and congenital disorder research. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in a biomedical science discipline (Cell Biology, Genetics and Genomics, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related).
• First-author publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals are preferred.
• Prior experience with live-cell imaging, genomics, and/or protein expression and purification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct postdoctoral research on R-loop regulation, DPCs, and genome instability.
• Publish results and contribute to the academic research program.

The Tang Lab at the University of Virginia School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate with a background in cellular and molecular biology.

Our research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of R-loop regulation, DNA-protein crosslinks (DPCs), and their contributions to genome instability in cancer and congenital human disorders.

Current research interests include:

• R-loop biology and transcription-replication conflicts (TRCs)
• DNA-protein crosslink (DPC) formation, repair, and consequences
• Genome instability mechanisms in cancer and congenital disorders
• Development of novel tools for locus‑specific chromatin and R-loop interrogation

Our ultimate goal is to elucidate the molecular mechanisms by which R-loops and DPCs drive genome instability - with the potential to inform the development of novel therapeutics for related human diseases.

QUALIFICATIONS

Doctoral degree, preferably PhD in Cell Biology, Genetics and Genomics, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related Biomedical Science discipline

First-author publication(s) in high‑impact peer-reviewed journals and prior experience with live‑cell imaging, genomics, and/or protein expression and purification is preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

Postdoctoral employment is normally limited to an individual who has been awarded a doctoral degree within the previous five years.This is a 12‑month appointment with the possibility of renewal (for an additional two, one‑year increments) contingent upon satisfactory performance and the availability of funding.

This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and must be performed fully on‑site.
