Los Alamos National Laboratory seeks a Postdoctoral Associate to advance research in polymer chemistry, polymer composites, and materials characterization. The role emphasizes synthesis, formulation, and thorough characterization of polymer-based materials, with focus on aging, degradation, and structure–property relationships.
Applicants will design and synthesize polymers or develop formulations, characterize chemical, thermal, mechanical, morphological, and surface properties, and communicate
We seek a Postdoctoral Associate to conduct research in polymer chemistry, polymer composites, and materials characterization, with complementary strengths in polymer synthesis and polymer characterization. Research will emphasize developing and evaluating polymer-based materials, understanding polymer aging and degradation, and establishing structure-property relationships.
Depending on their expertise, successful candidates will design and synthesize polymers, develop polymer and composite formulations, and/or characterize their chemical, thermal, mechanical, morphological, and surface properties. Responsibilities include developing research ideas, designing and conducting experiments, interpreting experimental data, and communicating findings through technical reports, peer-reviewed publications, and presentations. The Postdoctoral Associates will conduct independent research while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams.
Candidates must demonstrate a strong background in at least one of the following areas:
Ph.D. in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering or a related field. The candidate must have completed all Ph.D. requirements by commencement of the appointment and be within five years of completion of the Ph.D. Candidates may also have previous experience including postdoctoral experience.
The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Candidates may be considered for a Director's Fellowship and outstanding candidates may be considered for the prestigious Marie Curie, Richard P. Feynman, J. Robert Oppenheimer, or Frederick Reines Fellowships.

Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.
The Materials Synthesis and Integrated Devices group (MPA-11), conducts basic and applied research in areas related to applied energy programs and a variety of problems relevant to the weapons program. Our goal is to provide innovative and creative solutions needed to solve technical problems across the Laboratory's missions, including energy security, stockpile stewardship, and global threat reduction.
